Shrub's Flubs Scrubbed
Retired National Guard Lt. Col. Bill Burkett said Tuesday that in 1997, then-Gov. Bush's chief of staff, Joe Allbaugh, told the National Guard chief to get the Bush file and make certain "there's not anything there that will embarrass the governor."

Mr. Burkett said that a few days later at Camp Mabry in Austin, he saw Mr. Bush's file and documents from it discarded in a trash can. He said he recognized the documents as retirement point summaries and pay forms.

Bush aides denied any destruction of records or any order directing that any information in Mr. Bush's personnel file be destroyed. "The charges are just flat-out not true," said Dan Bartlett, White House communications director.

According to this Dallas Morning News article, Col. Burkett's accusations are reported in detail in James Moore's new book, Bush's War for Re-Election, which will be out in March. Looks like Bu$h really has been "born again." Like the Phoenix, up from the ashes of his burned and shredded paper trail. Luckie Duckie.

to say it out loud even once. It would be a nightmare to say it three times - fast, wouldn't it?

5. I don't know. Maybe trof does ...
Most service members have little knowledge of any but the basic regulations (that apply to everyday kind of stuff) until they get in trouble. Kind of like civil and criminal law.

13. Yeah and remember when info was left off his application for jury duty?
http://www.realchange.org/bushjr.htm

<snip>
In another evasion, Bush decided to serve jury duty in 1996, during his first year as governor. On his questionairre,
he simply left blank the questions about prior arrests and trials. Then he found himself on a trial for drunk driving,
where every juror is eventually asked about prior convictions for drunk driving. The night before the trial, Bush's
lawyer asked the defense attorney to dismiss him, because "it would be improper for a governor to sit on a criminal
case in which he could later be asked to grant clemency." It's a silly argument, because that problem exists with any
criminal trial and Bush had already decided to serve on a jury, but the defense attorney obliged and excused him
before direct questioning of jurors began.

14. I was just thinking about that, and I went back to find Bev Conover...
...and Linda Starr's 1999 article (found it archived here: http://victorian.fortunecity.com/brambles/499/Bush/Hiding/hiding.html)about the issue.

That article also included an inquiry about a George W. Bush, born 10-17-64, with a Houston phone number. I decided to do an infospace.com lookup on the guy and, although there is no current listing for that name in Houston or the surrounding area, I was directed to a paid search site. That site listed, among other George Bushes, a George W. Bush, age 39, living in Houston. Too bad it would cost $15 for a day pass to the site, or I'd be tempted to follow up on it.

Hmm...

7. Hot Diggity-Dog!!! It's getting out!
YESSSSS! Hey, folks, you want answers to the AWOL questions? It appears to be right here!

Here's another one. I sent this to Josh Marshall and Calpundit last night.

Former National Guard officer says Bush aide scrubbed military records – from OnlineJournal.com

http://onlinejournal.com/bush/110400Starr-Conover/110400starr-conover.html

By Linda L. Starr and Bev Conover
November 4, 2000—Here comes the other shoe to the denials and cries of “desperation” from the George W. Bush camp: A former officer in the Texas National Guard says an aide to George W. Bush scrubbed Bush’s military records to get rid of the disparities between those files and an account of Bush’s military service in his official biography.
Bill Burkett, a former lieutenant colonel in the Guard, said, “As the State Plans Officer for the Texas National Guard, I was on full-time duty at Camp Mabry when Dan Bartlett was cleansing the George W Bush file prior to G.W.'s presidential announcement. For most soldiers at Camp Mabry, this was a generally known event. The archives were closely scrutinized to make sure that the Bush autobiography plans and the record did not directly contradict each other. In essence it was the script of the autobiography which Dan Bartlett and his small team used to scrub a file to be released. This effort was further involved by General Daniel James and Chief of Staff William W. Goodwin at Camp Mabry.”

Just a snip, there.

You guys are laundering records the way your grandpappy laundered money. You guys are falsifying documents. You guys are frauds. You guys would look great in orange jumpsuits. You guys are (hopefully) finished.

10. Bill Burkett has tried to get this information, and more, out ...
...to the public for a long time. He's one of the good guys, and I'm scared for him. Be careful, Bill.

I hope they are doing everything possible to expedite it, as NOW is the time to be hitting the publicity tours and adding to the current discussion!

16. "the soft bigotry of low expectations"!
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 04:58 PM by Lisa
And "a system that just shuffles people through", even if they aren't up to scratch!

Oh, Mr. Bush -- I'm so shocked and appalled! You, of all people. I bet in your lifetime you've racked up so many "do-overs" that it would take a truckload of "welfare mothers", rehab cases, and minority students to match your record.

p.s. this is a test, isn't it. You're doing this on purpose, to see if I change my mind about giving people second chances. Well, I won't. The mothers, ex-druggies, and students -- unlike you -- didn't go on to trash the economy and get a lot of people killed.
