Victory for civil liberties!!! (peace protesters in Iowa story update)
http://desmoinesregister.com/news/stories/c4788993/23504845.html

Federal authorities retreated Tuesday in their investigation of an Iowa anti-war demonstration, withdrawing grand jury subpoenas delivered last week to four peace activists and Drake University.

The shift came as the investigation drew nationwide condemnation from civil liberties advocates, politicians and peace activists.

The lesson is that we can't let them get away with stuff like this...and collective pressures and actions work...

1. Great news!
We've got to keep fighting for our rights.

2. The bad news is
They are just learning the parameters of what they can and cannot get away with. Next time they will silence the media on the case before they get rolling.

3. true
I think it helped that both Tom Harkin (more so) and Chuck Grassley were critical of this.

You are right though, next time they'll just use USAPATRIOT or some other super secretive measures before the press even knows what went on.

4. Yep
The damage has been done.

Same with the DoJ backing off on the Abortion patients-records @ Northwestern.

more people should read this....we should be celebrating on this thread!

too many folks seem to want to just sit on GD2004 and complain about their favorite candidate losing and how they are going to leave the country.
