It's Morning In Bizarroworld!
Wow, how long has it been since you saw the American media doing something that actually cheered you up?

I mean, the news from Iraq is still very bad--50 yesterday, 40 today, how many tomorrow?--but the news from the WH briefing room is fantastic. What is this with the spine-growing all of a sudden? It's like one lemming finally stood up and said, "Hey! That's a cliff! Let's not go there!" And now they're all stampeding in the opposite direction.

Whatever, I'll take it,

The Plaid Adder

1. It's nice the media is using their "sharks smelling blood" for good...
...it's about damned time.

Better late to the party than never showing up...

2. did you see Jon Stewart last night
He had a lot of clips of shrub on and in one the shrub says, in response to why the Iraqis don't want us there, "I think the Iraqis do want us there." Then Stewart says something to the effect of "I guess a car bomb that blows up 50 people is Iraq's way of saying 'welcome!'"

4. It is big business so always goes for the bottom line.
If it was not for the bottom line can you see the news. Bush would be mud but they will still watch them selfs because of that money.I do not think they will ever do to Bush what they did to Clinton.

7. Fantastic "Cassandra" article, Plaid Adder!
One of the best I've read concerning how it has felt to live in Bush's America for the past 3 years. Thank you! :)

Very powerful essay!
While reading it I had the idea of an updated movie version of the Trojan war, using the Iraq war as an allegory. Might be an interesting interpretation...

11. listening now on Democracy Now
it is pretty unbelievable, they are actually PUSHING Scott, calling him on his spinning, demanding that he answer questions...

I love it, but I have to wonder what is up. Why now? Is this just some way for the media to get this out of the way now so in the crucial months it'll be past?

Or maybe, this is a bunch more drips, and there's no turning back...

Maybe it's the really dismissive attitude displayed by this white house to the press (there was a great article in the New Yorker on this, Ken Auletta I think)...

12. I think maybe we have been too prone to discount the human factor...
What I think maybe we're seeing now is that now that the individuals who make up "the media" finally feel like it's 'OK' for them to actually question things, they are releasing the pent-up frustration that they have been repressing for the past 3 years. My guess is that what they're doing now actually feeeeels gooooood to them. So naturally they're going to want to keep doing it so they can maintain that "hey look, I can finally respect myself" high.

13. Pent-up frustrations
Agreed.

Also, given the fact that it looks like a new administration will be in place in less than a year, and that bunch of menacing bullies will no longer threaten them and their families, the press members, as individual human beings, are finding a new level of comfort.

It doesn't hurt that the apparent nominee is Kerry, but under the circumstances, just about any of the Dem candidates would tend to empower that new comfort level. IMO

Hey, *! C ya in hell.

15. Didn't cheer *me* up.
The fact that the press conference was completely ignored by the television media was awfully distrurbing to me.

I honestly thought that they'd never just ignore it. I assumed it'd be such obvious censorship that they'd have to cover it in some form. But they didn't. That's troubling.

Took me a long time to write it, too. Some of them just roll right off the tongue but that one actually involved work.
