Anyone else gettin inundated with Republican popups?
Just the past couple of days, I am getting a bunch of popups that are RNC commercials. And they are not pleasant! They are in my face and I can apparently do nothing but "close" them.

grrrrrrrrrr

1. You have to run a spy sweeper every couple of days.
Its free and fixes the problem. The program is called Spysweeper. Run a google on it.

4. nope!
Get Panicware's Pop-up Stopper for free from PC Magazine's site.

Also get Ad-Aware, and run that after getting the pop-up stopper. Both are free!

6. There are several free browsers
that will prevent popup ads. I use Opera
myself (www.opera.com). Mozilla's Firebird
now called FireFox (www.mozilla.org/products)
and Netscape (www.netscape.com) will also block
popup ads. They're fast and free.

7. Whack 'em all with Proxomitron
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 04:34 AM by depakote_kid
Best ad busting, pop-up stopping, browser modifying little App I've ever found. Even blocks flash unless you want to click on a little link. Way cool. Requires a little set-up, but well worth the time.

8. With all the virii out there why would anyone run Windows?
Makes no sense at all, linux rocks, Macs are nice too, and once you get past a little learning curve you discover that 1) no viruses and 2) your capabilities reveal Windows for the shabby ripoff that it is. I like Suse since it came ready to roll with office programs and software galore, for free, and even set up my TV card with zilch effort on my part. I don't recommend doing the online install if you are on dialup but for broadband it can't be beat.

Mozilla has a groovy mail thing that eliminates all the spam and popups without any setup which I think is just awesome. I get upwards of 500 emails a day and all the spam is detected and expunged. With Outlook I had to constantly tell it what spam was and that was cumbersome.

If you think it's too scary consider this: my 69 year old mom on heavy rheumatoid meds switched over without a problem. She's still not used to not seeing all the junk mail trying to get her a bigger penis... LOL.

I did have to buy one piece of software so I could run Quickbooks and Visio but that was 40 or 50 bucks. Can't beat linux with a stick.

It's freeware, made by the AdSubtract people, and seems to work very well.
