Texas demographic change
Is there hope for democratic gains in this state in the near future? When will the hispanic population be enough of a factor to swing Texas into the "D" column. It will be inevitable one day, just like how California turned from a solidly republican state to a democratic state.

1. About the end of the decade, I think
I believe that's what Texeira and Judis figured in The Emerging Democratic Majority.

2. I don't know any facts or figures, but I'll be working my ass off for it..
Richard Morrison (takingontomdelay.com) has promised that within 10 years we'll have Democrats in power throughout Texas... not sure that is realistic, but it is an admirable goal! I'll be burning shoe leather and my checkbook for him and others!

6. The cattlemen are enough to swing Texas in this election if we do it right
I think Bush's "what, me worry? attitude re. BSE is the kind of wedge issue we need to take any beef-producing state.

So long as the conditions exist for foreign nations to ban imports of US beef (specifically, no ban on butchering downers for human consumption and no enforcement of bans on feeding bovine tissue to cattle), we've got an exploitable issue: the survival of the American beef industry depends on its ability to export meat.

"We will help you design a profitable way to ensure your beef, the finest beef in the world, can always be exported to any beef-consuming nation in the world. pResident Bush won't do that, has in fact promised not to do that."

We turn the cattlemen away from Bush and Bush goes back to the pig farm.
