Should Powell have a position in the next dem cabinet?
Do you think Powell should have a position in the next dem administration? Many people considered him acceptable/desired even when Bush was using him. Though his performance at the UN was damning was it enough to totally count him out of further administrations?

8. Frankly I'm appalled you would ask that question
Colon Powell is a lying, traitorous piece of shit.

His performance at the U.N. was a low point in American history.

I think he should be locked up with the rest of the Bushco conspirators and liars.

I hope he hits a roadside bomb in Iraq and feels the pain of the soldiers he sent there.

15. I can't believe all the vitrol aimed at Powell
He is still, in spite of everything, a voice of moderation in an out of control administration and he is not a neo-con.

His life prior to his role in the Bush tragedies was spotless, a true hero, who pulled himself up by his bootstraps to make something of himself...

I think some of you need to chill a bit.

19. spotless? He was the point man in the VN War
for the My Lai cover-up.

Please, this insistance that Powell is a secret liberal or moderate is ridiculous. Only in contrast to the pirates in this administration is he "moderate."

What sort of principled man would be a part of things done since 2000? But, look at his role in the cover up at My Lai and then chill yourself..

25. Point taken. But his voice of moderation went nowhere, and to nobody.
What good was his "voice of moderation" if it wasn't effective against this ruinous bunch of assholes? It didn't help. It didn't mollify anybody. It didn't hold back the wild jackals. It didn't prevent anybody from driving themselves and the rest of this country into a ditch. Truly, in the "this is bullshit" moment before his UN speech, and at ANY other of MANY opportunities when he and his department were overruled by the cRummy bunch or the Cheney gang, he could have and should have resigned - at least to send a loud, clear message that this crap was unacceptable. That he stayed on and tried to make nice-nice just tells me he's an opportunist, not that he has any principals. Anyone with principals would have found everything the bushies have pulled to be completely unacceptable and not worthy of having your name attached to it. He still had a good name, overall, when he accepted the dance with these devils. Now, he's just completely compromised and tainted.

26. I'm sorry
I just have this silly personality quirk that when people lie to start a war that kills tens of thousands of people and leaves thousands more hideously wounded just to feather the nests of a few chums, I get a tad vitriolic.

28. Yeah, Powell's a real horatio alger story
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 01:36 AM by kenny blankenship
oh yeah that wonderful colin powell, America's favorite black man:

Colin Powell, who covered up for the Americal divisions' killing sprees in the Quang-Tri province of Vietnam by whitewashing the My Lai 4 massacre. (he got inducted into the Republicans for that, i kid you not)

That Colin Powell who 20 years later also covered up for Cap the Knife's involvement in Iran-Contra by claiming in sworn depositions never to have seen a journal Cappy was keeping about his work arranging illegal arms transfers to Iran and the Contras. Colin Powell was Caspar's right hand man, so if other people knew of the existence of the book then Powell certainly had seen it, and probably knew what was in it, too (it was Cappy whom Powell had initially came to work for in Nixon's OMB after his outstanding work burying the My Lai incident). After Cap got his "preemptive" pardon, the daybook which had been sought for years by the special prosecutor Lawrence Walsh, turned up mysteriously on a shelf of the Library of Congress.

Being the self-same Colin Powell who 15 years after that also carried Bushler's browbeating lies and intimidation tactics to the UN, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people, none of whom had ever done anything to us, and dragging American credibility down to somewhere south of the level it had fallen to during Vietnam, if that's possible.

Real standup guy there.
A man of integrity --assuming he could be tricked into associating with the Bush Gang in the first place-- would have resigned his appointment to the State Dept. fairly early on in the Bush administration as it became clear to even groundlings and peanut gallery onlookers like ourselves here that their motives were essentially criminal in nature.

Colin Powell, I'm convinced, is white America's "best friend" You know the one they mean when they say "Why, some of my best friends are..."
Loving Colin Powell is America's insurance policy and its proof that we don't have a racial problem around here anymore.

24. Damaged goods. I wouldn't reward ANYBODY with the stench of bush
on him or her. I wouldn't want ANY leftovers from that cabal. ANY of them. He could have distanced himself at ANY time - and should have! The fact that he's stayed with it, and played the "good soldier" is tacit admission that the rampant shit-behavior of this bunch was something he either approved of or could grin and bear. TOTALLY unacceptable. I wouldn't reward him by keeping him on, any more than I would reward my kids for bad behavior, or hanging with bad people even if they didn't partake in anybody else's bad behavior. It was obvious he was on the B-team with these people - run over by Rummy and Condi and Dickie and Wolfowitz. Colin should realize that if you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. If that hasn't hit home with him by now, I seriously question his judgment.

If he would have resigned after they (bushies) fed him a bunch of lies and let him make a fool out of himself ,then I might have some respect for him .I never understood the attraction to him , like bush Iam puzzeled by any support they have !
