Campaign 2004: Would you feel safer if Microsoft was in charge of Voting?

One of Americans' biggest fears is the possibility (I'd say probability) that Republicans will cheat in this next presidential election. Of course, we all know that Republicans and Democrats both cheat shamelessly, in a number of ways.

But Republicans have upped the ante, and their most powerful weapon may be computerized voting machines.

I've bashed Microshaft on this forum many times, and I've always been disgusted by the number of people who shamelessly defend one of America's premier corporate whores.

So here's your chance to put your money where your mouth is. If Bill Gates offered to oversee the vote during Campaign 2004, would you welcome him aboard? If George Bush got 66% of the vote, would you say, "Well, Bill Gates would never cheat on America, so the vote must be legit!"

If the election had to be postponed because all the voting machines were suddenly zapped by a computer virus (or a built-in Microsoft bug), would your confidence be shaken? What if Microsoft asked for another $500 million - or a continuing election campaign contract - at the last minute?

Here's an interesting thought: Do you think candidates might be reluctant to criticize Microsoft if it was overseeing the vote? Of course, it makes little difference, because politicians never critciize Microsoft anyway. After all, that would take a little courage, wouldn't it?

4. you don't trust profit making bodies

with anything to do with elections or vote counting - their primary function/purpose is to make money - FAR too many chances for corruption.

Or the monopoly they have over OS, but isn't Bill Gates part of that group of gazillionaires who don't think inherited wealth is a good thing? This is the group with Buffett, Soros, etc. Does anyone else know about this?
So if he IS a member of that, he might not like * because inherited wealth/power is THE defining characteristic of *.
