Why the media has finally gotten tough on Bush?

As a possible answer to that question...

If the media can knock Bush down a peg of two and tarnish his 'trustworthy'
image with the electorate, then the 2004 GE could become a real nail biter.

A tough and close race will sell more papers and grab higher ratings than a blow out.

Just a thought.

1. and who took the hit for bringing up bush's AWOL status???
that's right, folks, General Wesley K. Clark. :( Even the Dems slammed Clark for it, and the picked it right up and started running with it.

with 3+ years of the 4th Estate being treated more like a trailer park I would imagine some are just getting sick of it.Add to this the smell of a little blood in the water, and the frenzy begins. I say chum away.

4. nope
They know that the public despises Bush. They can only skewer the polls for so long before everybody catches on.

The only thing they are doing is putting their finger up in the air to see which way the winds blows. The propaganda machine is trying to gain a little sliver of credibility.

6. You reach a point where you just can fit any more glitter on the turd.
Personally I think it happened with Bush's amnesty plan. He finally pissed off his base. He became almost universally disliked by the general population, and it was impossible for the corporate press to keep saying Bush is "incredibly popular".

I think some influential people are deciding to cut their losses and let Dubya sink. Too much baggage.

7. I reckon these clowns MUST be losing money, same as everyone else
There are ever fewer (decent) jobs to be had. We're choking to death on our utility bills. Consumer confidence continues to plummet. Plus the extra comfort of knowing we'll have little to no retirement in a few years, thanks to the Bushies. I know I sure as hell am not throwing away as much money as I used to on luxuries.

Maybe the media bought all the lies when BushCo blew into town. Maybe they truly believed that a motherlode of cash was waiting for them just around the corner, should their little monkey candidate be installed in office. But the media, as much as ever, is driven by advertising, and now I think they are starting to realize that someone has to pay for all the stupid, worthless junk they shill, and it ain't the 1% who made out on the tax cut.

9. Because their major corporate owners no longer believe Junior...
...is the right guy for the job. Junior and the NeoCons killed the Goose that laid the Golden Economy, and the corporations want him out.

11. I think that's the only logical explanation
I'd like to think that somebody, somewhere in the media, actually has some brains or they've finally woken up, but no.

I think the corporate heads realized Bush has made a fool out of them, and they're pissed off.

At some point, ego becomes more important than money.

The media is really there to help him by holding the chimp to a higher standard?

No, I don't think so.

Its time for them to attack like crazed weasels. I hope he continues to unravel all the way to his defeat. Sic transit gloria. There's a moral in here somewhere.

13. They need to pauperize him before they kingmake again
They did it with Kerry, they did the inverse with Dean, and they will do it with Bush. But we know who they want to win, and it ain't any of our guys.

16. Bush's AWOL status isn't news.
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 03:09 AM by republicansarewhores
I don't get why the media whores are suddenly paying attention... the evidence has been all over the place for years, most notably at www.awolbush.com and the New Hampshire Gazette has a whole database on him and the rest of the Republican Chickenhawks. Michael Moore's been talking about it for years, now that he brought it up at an official Clark rally the media pays attention? I'm sorry to see Clark go. He has honor. Bush looks somewhat beatable finally (his "Meet the Press" appearance was an embarrassment... can you imagine Clinton stammering like he did?) but the thing that horrifies me is the administration's "sudden" attention to finding bin Laden... would the majority of voters recognize an "October Surprise" for the political manuever that it would really be or would they be hoodwinked like they were before we went into Iraq?

RAW
