Fellow African Americans, What Say You About Larry Elder?
I Have Just Started Listening To Him, Hoping For A Refreshing View Of The Current Political Situation In This Country. Sadly, I've Come Away With A Very Bad Taste In My Mouth. He's The Same As Rush, Hannity And The Rest.... What Say You?

2. Larry Elder is confused.
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 10:12 PM by philosophie_en_rose
I have silly freeper friends that adore his books. His basic message:

1) Black racism is worse than white racism.
2) Black people should just get over racist institutions.
3) Unwed parents ruin Black culture.

He's very simplistic. In sum, "if I could do it, why can't you?"

:puke:

p.s. Trade you Larry Elder for Elaine Chao. :P

I Commend Him For His "Success" But He's So Far Out There He Doesn't Even Know What The Hell He's Talking About. It Shames Me That He Claims To Represent The "Thinking Black Man"

8. You Really Think So?
I Think I Dislike Him More Than Rush And Hannity - Atleast They Have A Position And Stick To It. Larry Is A Wishy Washy Kinda Guy. Libertarian One Minute Republican The Next (I Wish I had The Link) And He (Like Rush, Hannity) Never Lets The Opposition Get A Word In.

12. Yes, I do.
While I don't agree with many of his positions, I am able to stomach his opinions far more than Hannity. Elder has beliefs he definitely sticks to and tends to criticize politicians, both democrat and repubs. Hannity, however, continually espouses the party line. At least Elder has been criticizing the way the current administration has been spending money. Hannity would never criticize *Bush.

Mind you, I don't listen to a lot of talk radio. I live in Canada (although I'm originally from Chicago)and listen occasionally via the Internet. I'm just basing my opinion on things I've heard recently.

41. Here in L.A., I've been aware of him for a long time.
He struck me as one of those folks who thinks, mostly, like a republi-CON but somehow thinks his listeners object to republi-CONJOBS so he calls himself a libertarian to distance himself. Says every so often that he's pro-choice and against the drug war, which is acceptable to me, but everything else is just so Rush-like. Maybe Rush-lite. Tiresome. They're all just tiresome. They're all the same. All wall-to-wall conservatives. Truly, in this case, nothing here, folks. Move along. He's just another one in a nauseatingly continuing series.

11. Black conservatives
Mr Elder,Mr Sowell,The Williams, all are well educated buffons, some of us will do anything for money, they have no standing in the so called black community, they envy Jesse Jackson and other noted black liberals but there is something lacking in their character,so they turn to the one thing they do well the uncle tom role,I refer to them as AKUT'S. AKUT=ass kissing uncle toms.

28. Race pimp is what he is...
How often do you hear conservatives calling Black folks who actually do something to help other Black people race pimps? Consider this though, Elder and his kind (let's not forget Roy and Niger Innis) would be nothing if white conservatives didn't need them to be the 'other' Black.

And they play the role quite well!

20. My take on him
I'm still white, like the last time I posted, but it seems to me he's just an opportunist. Let's face it - there's not much money to be made as a Black Liberal. Being a Black Conservative is a gold mine. Can't fault the guy for making a good buck.

42. Libertarianism for the Uninformed and Gullible
Larry Elder, as far as I know, does not consider himself a traditional conservative (or paleoconservative), but he does espouse libertarian viewpoints (ending the war on drugs and repealing the Wagner Act (aka No more Trade Unions)). His books are shallow and poorly-formed introductions of a basic right-libertarian "philosophy". If you're interested in African American political authors, good choices are Cornel West (on the left) and Thomas Sowell (on the right).
