We "yellow dogs" are quite liberal socially and economically. Blue Dogs are conservative. Bill Maxwell from the St Petersburg Times explains...

2. A little gem from the archives
Color Coded Dems.

DEM DOG CAUCUSES

(ed. note: caucuses that actually exist are marked with an asterisk)

Blue Dog Democrats*: Coalition of conservative, mostly southern Dems
Yellow Dog Democrats*: Group of Dems who when in the voting booth, facing a choice between a yellow dog and a GOP candidate, would choose the dog
Green Dog Democrats*: Environmentally-conscious Dems
Red Dog Democrats: Dems that enjoy a spot of high quality beer every now and again
Pink Dog Democrats: Recovering Mary Kay ladies who serve as grassroots organizers
Periwinkle Dog Democrats: Dems that gather monthly to peruse the rainbow of quality products in Chadwick’s of Boston catalogs
Chartreuse Dog Democrats: Loyalists who feel the urge to purge when they partake of the visage of one G.W. Bush
Coral Dog Democrats: Dems that adore pastels
Cordovan Dog Democrats: Liberals who enjoy wearing preppy penny loafers
Maize Dog Democrats: Dems that eat lots of corn
Slate Dog Democrats: Progressives who partake of insightful political commentary on the web
Gray Dog Democrats: Dems that cross over during primary season to skew Republican returns
Brown Dog Democrats: Dems that own brown dogs
Teal Dog Democrats: Lefties who promote the use of non-traditional colors in patriarchal team sports
Purple Dog Democrats: Dems that like grape soda
Orange Dog Democrats: Midwestern suckers who stupidly believe in the Rose Bowl aspirations of the University of Illinois football program
The caucuses, which the party hopes will inject a much-needed dose of excitement back into its base, will also provide a broader appeal to Americans in the mushy middle.

3. "Yellow Dog" Democrats will vote for a yellow dog before voting for any
other party. A "Blue Dog" Democrat incorporate the old Dixiecrats, Bollweevil Democrats, whatever you want to call em. Supposedly the Democratic Party leash was so tight around their neck it made them turn blue. It got it's start with John Breaux and a Louisiana artist who's made quite a living off his "blue dog" paintings, and prints.

5. I'm watching too!
All sizes, shapes and colors! Most of 'em pretty hairy and wagging their tails (just like most democrats)

8. I was thinking that too but colors additive qualities make that blue...
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 05:20 AM by Serenity-NOW
Don't they? Or is it blue and yellow make green? I guess that's it since yellow and blue are primary colors. Sorry for the confusion.
