An idea for the 'Democrats will raise taxes' Repuke strategy:
Has anybody ever published the amount of money people have left over after federal, state, and local taxes are paid? I don't think I've ever seen that. All I've seen are millionaires whining that they have to pay $700,000 in taxes. What no one has pointed out is that they have $5 million LEFT OVER; discretionary funds that they don't need for health care, housing, food, clothing, transportation, etc. I think that maybe, just maybe, people may understand the progressive tax structure if this were more publicized. It would be even better if discretionary income is published, because the top 1% of wage 'earners' have a shitload of money left over when their 'basic' needs are met.

1. uh ... they're not going for people who think with that argument
they're going for dumbasses, people who think "shit, those fuckers want to raise my taxes. I ain't votin' for them"

That's all.

Argue the finer points of progressive taxation all you want, it won't matter to those folks.

5. This is a fair point
Although being concerned about taxes isn't just for Dumbasses. I mean a lot of people these days have a limited amount of money and a lot of expenses; it's kind of justified for those people to be concerned that they will have to give more money to Uncle Sam.

On the other hand; a lot of the people who are complaining the most aren't going to have to worry about making ends meet.

2. Tricky...very tricky...
No one wants to get into an argument about how much money someone is allowed to have. IMHO.

6. I don't mean that
It's not how much people are allowed to have - it's turning the 'rich are taxed at a much higher rate' argument on its head.
