Can U.S. citizens legally work in Canada? How would I get residency? What's the process to go about looking for work there?

What are the main cities like? Anyone been to Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver and can describe them?

3. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that...
Ringmastery, I've been considering the same questions. Most of the time, I just consider it a joke. But there are times when things seem bleak that I get serious about it. I don't know if I could or would want to deal with four more years.

I felt like I had been gut punched in 2000. I can only imagine what I'll feel like if it goes bad this year.

Official Gov of Canada immigration info:
http://canadainternational.gc.ca/view-en.asp?Grp=00EB00F3&act=1&tbID=1

also under NAFTA professionals can cross the border to work fairly easily.
Do you have a craft or trade? or a particular interest, its a freakin big country

All the big cities you mentioned are fairly good big cities, Montreal has the best nightlife and vive and French girls, Toronto has the best economy, Vancouver has quality of life (mountains, close to the gulf islands) but a hell of a traffic problem)

consider the smaller cities Halifax, Ottawa or Calgary

Richard Florida (Rise of the Creative Class guy http://creativeclass.org) gave a talk out here (halifax) a few weeks ago about how the f***ed the Bush policies are driving the best and the brightest and most creative, from not just not immigrating to the US, but emigrating from the US, Hey W's loss is our gain!

but firstly and foremost, get that bastard out of Al Gore's chair. likely an easier task than dealing with immigration paperwork.

9. I'd take a look at Winnipeg too.
Don't think about Alberta unless you long desperately for American-style conservatives.

12. Try to find a job,
It's easiest to come to Canada if you have a job lined up.

Unless you are very rich its difficult to get into Canada with just a suitcase in hand.

Alberta really isn't that bad, people who act like it is Alabama have never been to Alabama,

13. You can
take an online quiz to see if you qualify. Take some french classes to boost your score. If * wins and the Gay Marriage Amendment passes my partner and I are moving to Vancouver....beautiful city.

14. I thought Alberta was nice.
Some things in Canada are different besides the obvious health care differences. The TVs in bars have hockey on. I mean all the TVs.

The food tastes a little different. Probably because it's not as processed as it is here.
