Did MSNBC censor Bush MtP transcript?
Here's the NBC version of the transcript:

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4179618

Now, here's a Washington Post transcript:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A23218-2004Feb8.html

The past does not exist. The past has never existed.

1. Can you summarize what's missing from the NBC transcript?
I'm poring through these suckers, but it's ponderous work. Perhaps you could help me cut to the chase?

3. The "I don't testify" quote
Censored from the "official" NBC transcript; now reads: "You know, testify?"

Preserved in the Washington Post transcript. Check Page 1 on the WP version.

Hope this helps!

4. Pertinent parts
Russert asked Bush if he would testify before the commission. He quickly and definitively answered, "I don't testify".
The "I don't testify" phrase was reinterpreted "What, to testify?"

Unaltered transcript here:

6. Orwell in action
We are surrounded by the same kinds of monsters that aided and abetted Hitler bilthely.

Luckily, our Hitler is "kinder and gentler" for the moment.

But how can that last with a Totalitarian Press?

9. Of course...
As you told me earlier, this is the same George W. Bush who apparently thinks he doesn't owe an explanation to the American people - the ones who supposedly elected him to begin with.

Every time I try to read transcripts of * speaking, I struggle to understand what he says.
I don't know too many people who are this incoherent. How did this jackass ever get elected in the first place? (oh wait, he didn't)

16. yup, they sure did..
they added a question mark.

this reminds me of the tony snow interview with bush, when george declared that
"we didnt know that there would be baathists leftovers who were mad about not being in power" and fox pulled the 'didnt' out in the transcript later.

lol.

"the country is run by corporate media thugs" - tomas king, guerrillafinga.

19. It may be that whoever's doing the transcribing can't understand *'s mush.
For example, farther down on the MSNBC transcript, toward the end, there's this:

President Bush: I'm sure they are. I don’t know. I haven't seen the (unintel) yet. (Laughs)

Far be it from me to defend that criminal asshole, or the whoring NBC, but the differences in transcription just may be a function of a baffled transcriber.

22. I think it's an honest mistake.
One says "You know, I don't testify."

The other says, "You know, testify?"

I doubt anyone intentionally removed the words "I don't" on the theory that would help Bush.

The real bias is blatant. Dennis Miller, Joe Scarborough, and Bill O'Reilly get to express their conservative opinions an hour-a-night, and no one on tv is expressing a liberal opinion for an hour-a-night.
