Freepers unhappy with Bush's MTP performance
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 02:05 AM by rumguy
These comments are from a thread about Peggy Noonan's new column in which she also says negative things about Bush's MTP performance...

I agree with Peggy. Bush had to know that the WMD questions would be what they were and he hemmed and hawed around the answer. I can't figure out why he can't say that Saddam declared that he had weapons but we haven't figured out yet what happemed to them or if they are still in tact where they are.

The interview was damaging. What was the WH thinking letting that a-hole Russert interview him with nothing but 2 or 3 repetitive attack questions? The whole thing was set up to make Bush look bad and give sound bite fodder for the Dems. In addition, Noonan is correct - Bush is lousy at giving good responses. He should have hit the economy issue out of the park, rising market, employment, manufacturing, spending, confidence. Instead he gives his usual sleepy "I think it's coming around" impression. The more Bush looks and acts defensive and lets the Dems control the debate, the worse it's going to get for him - and us.

I agree with Peggy, Bush's answers were not all that sharp. Bush really should have showed some emotions when defending himself in the guard and on Iraq. Bush is letting the criticism live on by not defending his postition that well.

Unfortunately, I think Peggy is right. Bush looked tired, halting in speech, and uncertain. We KNOW he's not uncertain about things that matter, but he didn't project it. There is plenty of time to improve his performance, but this was not one of his shining moments. She's also correct that he gives better speeches than talking points.

I'm a safe vote for him-- a broken-glass Republican-- but he didn't put our case forward as forceably as he should have.

Bush is going to need more than the base to win this election. Now that the Dean dream is gone we have to contend with someone that could actually win. If Bush doenst ramp it up he could actually lose and that has nothing to do with the DNC. When you have an encumbant, the race is about how people feel about the Presidents performance. Recently he hasnt been inspiring. As I said before he's beginning to remind me of his dad. He can and will have to do better to get reelected... Hell he can't even get 90% on Free Republic to vote for him in the online poll. Duh!!

1. Freepers see what a joke he is
"He gives better speeches than talking points..."

Not that that's saying a whole lot.

Is "Broken-Glass Republican" the GOP equivalent of "Yellow-Dog Democrat?" Interesting imagery...

3. Nice, thanks for posting, it reminds me that not all repubs are completely
brainwashed.

In fact all of my intelligent republican friends jumped ship once the White House started going overly religious. I'm still working on my father-in-law, somedays he admits he might vote democratic, but on others he is a proud republican. He likes Dean and Edwards enough to vote for them, but won't vote for Kerry or Clark. If I can't convince him to vote Dem, I think I might be able to convince him and his wife to sit home on voting day.

The tide is turning, we are going to win in Nov.

4. Amazing that they bitch about Russert just like we do.
But check out this Brain washed fools comments:
I'm with you. I guess what really frosts me is that Bush has been proven 100% CORRECT on the point about al-Qaeda in Iraq---which to me was always on a par with WMDs---and yet neither he nor his staff ever play that card. For the life of me, I don't get it. I think it is their STRONGEST card, and the STRONGEST tie to 9/11.............. This guy is ether really really really dumb, Or simply can't tell heads from tales when it comes to the truth.

Did it ever occur to these assholes that Al Qeada is there now because they see a chance to go out and fight Americans? On muslim soil? Gee, that won't help them recruit.

6. Noonan is wrong about stressing the economy.
The real numbers are terrible. If he tried pitching a rosy-hued return of prosperity, the Dems could have him on toast points.

8. Why unhappy?
He did the very best job he could do. Isn't that enough?

The knucklehead is in such a bind now that he can't even figure out what to lie about, so he doesn't say anything except "war on terror"

29. Republicans are beginning to see...
He did the very best job he could do. Isn't that enough?

... that Bush is in way over his head. It will be hard for them to admit it, but sooner or later there will be no choice but to admit it. If they were smart, they'd grab another candidate before November, but their pride won't let them.

. . . I think Bush ought to challenge the candidate the Dems choose to a written debate.

I think you may have identified the origin of the phrase though. From now on I intend to refer to such people as Night of the Broken Glass republicans.

out! Kid DErange-o is trying to run a bluff in the poker game of politics and he thinks he has the money to buy the pot, even if he don't have all the cards to back up his bet! Nobody left in the game but the suckers trusts Bush anymore, because he got caught dealing Halliburton contracts off the bottom of the deck and pulling WMDs out of his(rectal)sleeve!

Now he's betting his campaign on two aces and two eights, but he forgot that he isn't playing with a complete deck and he never has! He didn't count on all his misdeals ever catching up with him, so he bet on a card that never fell to him!

Now he is simply bluffing on this and about every hand that he plays, because he forgot what his mommy told him and he has no other choice but to bluff! If the DErange-o Kid had just remembered what mommies everywhere tell their little busharoos about playing the game, he might have kept a respectable seat in the game! Those wonderful words of wisdom CHEATERS NEVER WIN STUPID might have turned this morally AWOL Texas Gambler around!

EDIT}I forgot the moral to the story and that is: We are going to give the White House a ROYAL FLUSHING in November and get rid of all the Toxic Bullshit! * You're either with me or against me!

25. His showing on MTP was proof positive- He doesn't want to win-
It was even more obvious than Poppy Smirk looking at his watch during the debates in '92...
They've accomplished so much in the first 4 years, and the next 4 are going to mean serious work for the administration that has to pick up the mess.
The surplus has been looted for the wealthy,
and Sadaam has been taken out-

They've achieved those goals, and now it's time for a democrat to come back in and do the dirty, thankless work of re-building the economy- so that the repukes can come back again later to harvest it for the wealthy.

that's how the system works.

When is he ever sharp? Only when he's talking about baseball, or killing people. The economy doewsn't interest him, it's just numbers, and he has no personal stake in it. No wonder he sounded "sleepy"--get a clue, freeps!

And how exactly so they "KNOW" this? And what the hell is a "broken-glass Republican". A "broken-record Republican" I would understand.

On edit: Now that I've read the other posts I know what a "broken-glass Republican" is and let me just say that I'd be more than happy to provide the glass. I can't think of a better way to recycle.
