Margaret Carlson places war dead at 350
Media whore Margaret Carlson is a renowned non-entity who will say anything to stay on the air and keep those six figures rolling in. Still, even my jaundiced ears couldn't believe it last night when she underestimated the number of American soldiers killed in Iraq by more than 180.

It was a pull-back-the-curtain moment on the intellectual sloth of the chattering classes:

CARLSON: Right. And I agree with Bob, the election will be in November. Listen, there were—you asked the question—if the Democrats ask the question, knowing what you know now, would you have gone to war, would you have lost 350 soldiers—

SHIELDS: It's 500.

CARLSON: ...wounded 150 more...

2. Wounded 150 more??
Well, the dead are pretty damn wounded now aren't they...

I guess we are overlooking the 200+ wounded that are still alive...

Stupid liberal media...(/sarcasm)

10. also not counting
many soldiers who die after being transferred to military hospitals out of Iraq, or those who are "contractors" for the army (wearing US army uniforms and paid bny US army) or those Iraqi's working for and being paid by the US.

ALso not counting suicides and/or "fragging"

4. Margaret was runner-up for "media whore of the year" ...
... at MWO.

Yesterday's performance is evidence of Margaret going for the gold this time.

5. She probably following the line that it is 350 killed in military action.
They don't want to include the ones killed for other reasons in Iraq whether vehicle crashes or whatever.

8. She's an idiot. I cringe whenever she's in an "advocate"
position. Someone on the CG corrected/updated her.

12. Prolly auditioning
If things get bad between now and November, Rove will probably instruct the media to COMPLETELY shut off any non-Smirk talk. So Begala, Carville, Shields, colmes, Clift, and the other 4-5 independents on TV will be looking for work. Maybe Margaret's got a mortgage and can't afford to be pilloried.

13. Couldn't believe it either. Someone tried to correct her, but she just
kept bleating the same lie. And this is supposed to be one of that program's token Democrats? :puke:

15. In this case, there's only one number that really matters
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 12:12 AM by depakote_kid
to the friends and families- and that's did my loved one come back from Iraq alive or not. Period. All the mumbo jumbo about "non-hostile" deaths doesn't matter- not to them at least. I don't know what that count stands at, but it's a damn sight higher than any 530 something...

Of course, there are other numbers that matter- such as whether (regarless of the cause) their loved ones come back maimed and scarred physically or mentally for life, but numbers like that are more difficult to discern, so I'm willing to cut some slack to reporters on there.
