American Airlines Pilot Plugs Christianity

American Airlines Pilot Plugs Christianity

An American Airlines pilot asked Christians on his flight to identify themselves and suggested the non-Christians discuss the faith with them, the airline said.

The case was handed over to the airline's personnel department for an investigation, spokesman Tim Wagner said Sunday.

"It falls along the lines of a personal level of sharing that may not be appropriate for one of our employees to do while on the job," he said earlier.

American's Flight 34 was headed from Los Angeles to New York's John F. Kennedy Airport on Friday when the pilot asked Christians on board to raise their hands, Wagner said.

1. If I were a passenger I'd worry about this pilot!
I may end up on the side or in the middle of a skyscraper.

4. This is going too far
The pilot should concentrate on flying the plane, and keeping the passengers safe. Nothing else. If he wants to be a missionary he shouldn't be a pilot.

9. I like it when pilots comment about certain things
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 09:21 PM by depakote_kid
as in: "ladies and gentlemenn, we have just crossed over the international dateline," or "off to the left, you can see Crater Lake." I wish they'd do more of that. Once, a pilot even turned out the cabin lights on a flight across across Australia so the passengers could better enjoy the lightning show in the clouds below. Very cool.

But talking about a specific religion... that's at best insensitive, but more important, it's potentially disruptive, and for that reason alone the pilot should probably be disciplined over this incident.
