Afghan Women Liberated by Computers?
I've long maintained that the computer revolution, on balance, has had a very negative impact on global society. Computers have greatly accelerated the pace of technology, leading to the development of weapons and biohazards faster than the public can monitor them. Computers have destablizied industry, cost millions of people their jobs and helped the government spy on all of us. The world's richest thug is a computer guru - Bill Gates.

But there are some positives. The Internet represents one of democracy's last best hopes.

And I just corresponded with a woman who says she works with computers in other nations, including Afghanistan and Iran. She notes that women who are forced to stay in their homes can work on computers, adding that some of these high-tech women are more successful than their husbands.

Ironically, she's probably done more to liberate women than the U.S. military has.
