WP story - link....people are still NOT VOTING in any large #'s
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 04:39 PM by amen1234

this is the BIGGEST issue in the upcoming elections...this is why YOUNG people WILL be drafted....this is the most likely reason that shrub may be re-elected.....

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

PLATO: One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up BEING GOVERNED BY YOUR INFERIORS.....

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

-snips for today's WP-

Growth in a state's population may mean more people voted overall, but the percentage of eligible voters who actually bothered to go to the polls has been shrinking for years.

A record number of people went to the polls in Iowa, for example, but in percentage terms, the turnout of eligible voters was about the same as in 1988. In Oklahoma, twice as many people voted in the primary last week compared with 2000 -- but that was only 12 percent of the eligible population, which represents a 30 percent decline from 1992 and 1988. Just 9.8 percent of eligible voters showed up in Missouri, again about a third fewer than in 1988. Arizona and Delaware turned out a dismal 6 percent of eligibles, neither close to a record.

1. I guess they haven't been paying attention to the primaries
Dems are turning out in record numbers. I don't know how many more young people there are, but that is one group that needs to wake up and smell the roses.

3. They are just trying to beat back the tide. Discourage people from
going out to vote. They make me mad.

4. these are the 'record numbers' for turnout...% in single digits.....

total percent of eligible voters in single digits is not good...it allows radical right-wing neo-cons to seize control way too easily...

5. People don't vote
People don't vote because their vote means absolutely nothing.

Democrat, Republican - there's more difference in their spelling than actual politics.

8. Not my point
More Democrats could be participating, Republicans don't need to show up because Shrub is already the nominee.

btw: Your optimism is overwhelming </sarcasm>

6. It's time for a wake up call to the disconnected youth of
this country. Having their freedom and lives the subject of a lottery might just do the trick. It's going to be fun watching all of those gung ho repug thugs meet the reality of forced subscription and the likelihood of death for bush's oil buddies.

Eh, sorry for not being optimistic about the prospect of choosing between two fat bureaucrats who differ little more than the source of their bribes :(

One gets the cash from Hollywood, the other From Oil Barons

7. Don't listen to the media...they are trying to make you stay home!!
I block out anything the media says about the candidates and the campaign. I just listen to the candidates, the callers, and view the boards and foreign news.
