America: Who Hates Whom?
Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia aren't the only examples of modern nations that are torn by internal strife. Let's face it: Americans hate each other.

Liberals hate the South and Texas. Conservatives hate Massachusetts and the "Left Coast." West Dakotans hate themselves, and genuine Native Hawaiians hate whites.

Conservatives and liberals hate each other. Democrats and Greens hate each other.

This polarizing hatred sometimes pushes certain groups into astonishingly similar camps; e.g. left-wing anarchists and right-wing militias.

Amazingly, most Americans are too busy hating each other to hate the real enemy. It's possible that more than 50% of U.S. citizens hate George W. Bush, but even many liberals adore Bill Gates, one of the world's greatest scumbags.

Hatred can be a powerful force for good when channeled in the right direction. But in the hands of Americans it's just a sad joke.

2. So, waitasec...
What you're saying is, we should all just hate Bill Gates?

Just need to be clear on this.

6. No, we should not "just hate Bill Gates."
We should hate Bill Gates, Paul Allen and all the other Microsoft whores. We should hate the corporate media. We should hate anyone and everyone who supports the corporate power structure.

Not hating the forces that are destroying this very country (and the planet) is delusional. People who value civility more than they do democracy and their own children will get exactly that - establishment civility.

3. Well...
You seem to hate a lot of Americans. I have trouble understanding what you are talking about. Did Bill Gates turn you down? Fire you? Greens hate everyone that are not as silly as them.

Hatred is never a powerful force for anything good. I think you are somewhat deranged.

7. Don't Feel So All Alone...
"I have trouble understanding what you are talking about. Did Bill Gates turn you down? Fire you?"

Don't feel bad; most Americans are similarly clueless.

"Hatred is never a powerful force for anything good. I think you are somewhat deranged."

I think the vast majority of Americans are deranged. And maybe I shouldn't just single out Americans. After all, millions of Germans followed a madman into Hell. Ditto for the Japanese.

Now, millions of Americans are marching in lockstep with George Bush, and the opposition's mashed-potato brains can't even figure out that Bill Gates is part of the problem. They're far more likely to piss and moan about the corporate media - yet they don't see anything wrong with candidates who don't criticize the media. Public education? That isn't even an issue for liberals, who are as much a part of the problem as are conservatives.

No, I'm not deranged. I just seem that way to people who are deranged.

15. Did Bill Gates turn you down? Fire you?
In the past, David has blamed Bill Gates for his unemployment.
How Bill Gates Is at fault, I don't know, David has never given a reason.

17. Many Seattle school teachers are now unemployed.
Is Bill Gates at fault? I'm aware of no smoking gun, but he does run the Seattle School District, and I heard that he wanted to get rid of a bunch of teachers through the grapevine a few years ago. I saw it coming.

Aside from that, what do you think of the K-12 Leadership Institute? Rudy Crew? Trevor Nielsen? Roger Erskine and that jackass superintendent from Federal Way?

Why do you suppose Bill Gates calls such derelicts friends? What solid contributions has the K-12 Leadership Institute ever made to anything?

What's that - you've never heard of the K-12 Leadership Institute?

Nevermind!

4. Nobody "really" hates anyone.
It's just that so many people are so desperately unhappy with their lives, and they must blame someone.. People used to have high expectations for their lives and the lives of their children..

The train is off the track, folks, and it's still moving.. it's just plowing up gravel ..

If you are not rich in America, you are up SHIT creek.. People used to have a pact with their employers. You do a good job, show up on time, and you would have a job as long as you wanted it.. There would be benefits, and a retirement that you could count on if you stayed 20 years or so. Your kids could follow you into that company and have the same.. People KNEW where they were going.. Some went to college, some stayed local and worked in factories, hotels, restaurants etc.. But they KNEW what to expect..

NO ONE knows what to expect.. Every day at work could be your last.. Families with teenagers have no idea how they will afford college, when every penny is needed just to keep the family afloat.. They have raised those kids and now they are faced with the fact that their kids will probably have SHIT jobs, and live at home forever.

At the same time, their elderly parents are being priced out of their own homes by higher taxes and higher medical costs, and guess where they will end up...right down the hall from those teens..

Is it any wonder that people who are scared, stressed, angry, stunned, and depressed would lash out ?

They need someone to blame for the fact that the American Dream is a nightmare for them..They did everything "right" and it's just not there.. "Someone" must have taken their dream..

There is always the "other".. the one we do not know or understand.. it's always "their" fault..

Combine that with a 24/7 hate radio that embeds these myths into the brains of all who will listen, and..there ya go..

9. Gates?
Gates is one of the "world's greatest scumbags?" I dunno, he's given a ton of money to my university (so has Paul Allen) and gives a lot to charity. And keep in mind, to be one of the world's greatest scumbags he'd have to be as bad as Milosevic, Dick Cheney, and Bill O'Reilly, and I don't think so. I for one greatly enjoy the Allen Library and Mary Gates Hall.

12. Gee, I wonder why Gates and Allen donate so much money?
Do you think they want to dupe people into ignoring their crimes and believing they're really very good people?

If so, it sure isn't working! (Yeah, right.)

10. I don't think we all hate each other.
Hatred is a powerful emotion, and it takes a lot of energy.

I think people like O'Reilly hate. And people like Murdoch are downright evil. If I start to hate, I will be just like them. They will have won.

But most of us do not hate. We have too many other things to think about just getting through the day.

I will use my energy to get rid of shrub, whom I loathe. But I don't think I really hate him. Once he is out of office, I will be very indifferent about his fate, unless he brings more evil on us.

Hatred is a big waste of time.

11. Apathy is a Very Dangerous State of Mind
"Hatred is a powerful emotion, and it takes a lot of energy."

Apathy is a powerful state of mind that drains people of energy.

"I think people like O'Reilly hate. And people like Murdoch are downright evil. If I start to hate, I will be just like them. They will have won."

That's ridiculous. If you think you can fight hatred with apathy, please give it your best shot.

"But most of us do not hate. We have too many other things to think about just getting through the day."

Most Americans don't think at all. They don't know how to reform their way out of a paper bag. They don't have a clue about politics. They don't know how to hate, because they've absorbed the establishment docrtine: THOU SHALT NOT HATE.

"I will use my energy to get rid of shrub, whom I loathe. But I don't think I really hate him."

You don't hate George W. Bush? That's very frightening, very sad. And people say I'm deranged for hating him.

"Once he is out of office, I will be very indifferent about his fate, unless he brings more evil on us."

Right, the best way to prevent similar crimes in the future is to not hold America's biggest criminals accountable. While we're at it, let's release all the murderers and rapists from America's prisons, too. It will be interesting to see how long we can remain indifferent to their fates.

"Hatred is a big waste of time."

To many people, political reform is a big waste of time. You know what they say - ignorance is bliss.

1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc
