Could Rove go the way of Trippi?
I think we here on DU way over-estimate this guy. The Mars idea was stupid during a period of joblessness and massive deficits. It's actually become somewhat of a joke.

The SOTU was real lame. I could have read that thing beforehand and noticed how lame it was. It had no over-arching themes to it, and what was up with that steroid talk? Wierd.

In addition, he has ticked off his base.

Rove has made some big mis-steps. Maybe Bush will seek other advice...

2. I don't think Rove will step down.
But I don't think he is as effective as he used to be. He has gotten way too much publicity, and many people are on to him.

We just need to keep the message out there. Make sure the public knows what type of people shrub surrounds himself with.

3. I think Rove's most effective as a challenger,
not as an incumbent

4. Bush* is in way too deep....
The problem with Bush* is that he has no mind of his own, and has allowed Rove to push him way too far out on a limb. There's no going back for him, the damage is done.

A smart politician would be able to synthesize advice from his advisors, keep the good ideas, and toss out the bad ones. Bush just spits every one of Rove's brain farts back verbatim. Besides, he's not smart enough to fire Rove.

Even Clinton had his extreme advisors, such as Dick Morris or James Carville. He was smart enough to listen to these guys but make up his own mind about things like policy.

6. Turd Blossom Rove knows where WAY too many bodies are buried.
Bush doesn't have the balls to fire him even if he wanted to.

9. I've wondered what Rove will do with the rest of his life
since he's attained his goal of making this idiot president. Where does he go from here? Will he pick another Texas idiot to work his "magic?"

I think Rove is out of his depth, anyway. He was a small-time muckraking strategist in Texas politics who suddenly found himself on the national stage. His dirty tricks are on a small scale, but sometimes deadly. He 's barely escaped getting caught several times already, like when he claimed his office was being bugged immediately before an election, then was highly suspected of having bugged it himself. The other guy lost because of Rove's accusations. Another instance was when the Bush debate practice tape was mailed to Al Gore's headquarters.
