MSNBC sez WH happy with MTP performance

Suzanne Malveaux reported that the White House is happy with Bush's performance. She had seen the tape already, and said that Bush was relaxed. She said the WH had not put out any releases "clarifying" anything Bush said as they generally do when he makes a big blunder.

So it looks as if we aren't going to see him crumble.

he thought it was worth the lives lost and injured to take out Saddam...His answer to the families of the dead soldiers was "David Kay said that Saddam was even more dangerous than we had thought." That that was the message he wanted to send to these families. "David Kay said.....?" Are you kidding me?. I can hardly wait to see the whole show tomorrow

To call this an interview is plain lying. It's a propaganda fluff piece. Russert should be ashamed but we know he has no shame or he wouldn't have agreed to this farce.

Putting out a release to clarify what Bush said before the interview's even aired would be absurd. At the very least it would give the interview more attention and more people would tune in, NOT the sort of thing you want to do if he really did screw up somehow.

They have to wait and see what sort of reaction it gets before they decide whether spinning is necessary.

I don't think Bush is going to have some major meltdown or screw up here. I think his problem is that he can't justify his foreign policy without a direct appeal to emotion. Answering every question with "September 11," constantly deflecting questions about the war by pointing out what a bad guy Saddam was, etc. - which I expect is what's going to happen - might start to backfire. You can only speak in emotional generalities for so long before people start rolling their eyes and demanding substance. His state of the union wasn't received well from what I remember, but there's no real way to "spin" that because the problem is not one of words but substance. My hope for tomorrow is that the public will get another glimpse of this administration's emptiness.

On the domestic front I really hope Russert asks him something about appealing to mainstream America while keeping his base happy (immigration, gay rights). Anything that exposes his close ties to religious crazies is likely to hurt him with moderates and independents.

And what about that mars trip, eh?
