WHAT HAPPENED to Sistani?
Was there an assassination attempt or not? His people are denying it, but others say it happened? Is it being spun that way to keep people calm as the UN arrives? Or was it disinformation that he was shot at in the first place? And who wants him dead more: insurgents in Iraq or the US occupation forces?

Enquiring minds want to know!

1. I heard something about that...
(on NPR I think). It's certainly hasn't been in the media much, but I'd sure like to know more about how and why.

3. it shoudl be more
of a story. He's the leading political figure in Iraq, and a cause of much consternation to the occupying powers, but I really haven't heard a peep. It's very odd, indeed....

2. nothing
it was a rumour, started either by the TV station affiliated with the US occupation forces, or one of the members of the puppet council.

One of Sistani's top represenatives, Sheikh Karbala'i, went on Hizbullah's al-Manar TV in Lebanon (along with al-Jazeera, one of the top stations in the region) to discredit the rumour and state that the truth of the matter was that there was just somebody arrested, not an attempt on Sayyid al-Sistani's life. Sistani's son confirms that there was no assassination attempt.

Either they're lying to cover up something to keep people calm, or the rumours were lies when they were started by the quisling agents of the US occupation forces, the latter possibly trying to stir up trouble.
