Stating that Bush argued that Iraq was an "imminent threat" does NOT...
...require that the chimp actually utter the term "imminent threat". It doesn't matter if he used those specific words, in that specific order, or not. We don't even have to point out that Ari (Bush's official spokesperson) is the numbskull who did used the term.

All it states (all it ever stated) was that Bush himself argued that Iraq was a serious (urgent, "bad", ugly...whatever) threat to America, hence "Pre-Emptive War", and must be Invaded to eliminate that percieved serious threat (Specifically nuclear weapons.). He made it very clear that Iraq was going to kill Americans, and kill them soon, so we better do something or Americans will die.

In other words Bush argued that Iraq was a imminent threat to America.

No need to use quotes.

Now here's the real question, who ever said that Bush (himself) uttered the words "Imminent Threat" in public? I've never heard anyone say that Bush used those specific words. Sure I've heard people say that Bush, and the Administration, claimed that Iraq was an imminent threat (Which they did time and again) but that's not the same thing. It's simply an accurate description of their words/actions, that's all.

Needless to say I'm simply amazed that they managed to make this an actual issue...

1. This is going to sink Bush
Here is why. Bush's whining about never specifically saying the words "immenent threat" reminds people of that debate over what the word "is, is."

The big difference; when Clinton lied, no one died.

People can grasp that.

3. Yeah,
I mean, set aside imminent. Was Iraq a threat? That needs to be the laser tight focus. All else spring from that: inspections vs war, US wrong vs "Old Europe" right, needless loss of soldiers' lives, ever escalating costs, increasingly likely civil unrest--if not war--in Iraq, etc.

12. Sounds Fairly Imminent To Me
The mere use of that imagery was intended to evoke urgency. Otherwise, why even bring it up?

The message sent was loud and clear and the use of the word is completely irrelevant to the issue. He meant imminent, whether he said that word or not.

Anyone who can't see that is a fool.

6. I heard a Bush sound bite the other day..
It went like this,"Being President means having to make the tough calls."
Well George being President means also having to make the RIGHT calls. He was wrong on Iraq. He was wrong on the intelligence before 9/11. He was wrong on the economy. He was wrong on spending. he was wrong on the tax cuts. He was wrong in claiming he won the 2000 election. He's been wrong on everything!

7. Here's the quote where the little schmuck said "the threat is imminent"
The writer of the speech worded this pretty carefully:

"Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late. Trusting in the sanity and restraint of Saddam Hussein is not a strategy, and it is not an option."

January 28th, 2003 State of the Union

Several papers the next day ran a story that said "pResident Bush Calls Iraq Threat Imminent."

This is a bullshit issue.

11. Maybe we should remind them
that Gore never said quote: "I invented the internet."

That's the new rules, whiners, rules you had a hand in drafting.

So shut up, sit quietly, and eat your own pus-filled discharge.

13. Using the word "grave" is worse than "imminent."

Grave means we're all going to die (or come as close to dying as possible, with only a slight chance of survival).

Just my opinion.

14. Would you equate "grave" with "imminent"?
The thesauri(?) I looked in did not, but the definitions seem approporiate given the context.

I ask because bush* HAS been using "grave threat" and "grave and gathering threat" for a long time.

P.S. - Does anyone know another word for thesaurus?
