Are the PNAC'ers trying to restart the Cold War?
Looks like Pooty-Poot's got an excuse to start kicking ass in HIS hemishpere again. Ya think Rove wants to get back to the old two-superpower model, with a nice, apparent Enemy who can be blamed for everything that's wrong in the world?

1. Wing Nuts Were Trying To Restart The Cold War With China
When I was using the Nut Chase ISP and trying to argue with the right-wingers on their political boards, the right-wingers weren't paying the slightest attention to al Quaeda and the threat that al Quaeda posed to American lives and interests--but they were beating the drums for a new Cold War with the People's Republic of China. They weren't paying much heed to al Queada even after the US embassies were bombed--save to make their usual anti-Clinton noises and blather about Monica and (bleep). It looks like the last couple of years have quieted the wingie-dingies' urge to sound off about the G*dless Commies, but maybe they're back to their new tricks.

While I'm alarmed that Putin has run such Cold War exercises, I'm not entirely surprised. Looking at the US from the outside, a dispassionate observer might very well think that the US government is in imminent danger of falling into the same sorts of lunatics who are running Iran or Milosevic's Serbia. Pootie may well be preparing for what he sees as the worst.

7. Not China! Our "Most Favoured Trading Partner"?
What purpose would that serve?
C'mon, we've all read (or should, anyway) the PNAC web site. Murka needs stable energy (OIL) supplies (OIL) to be the pre-emminent (pre-emptive) power in the world. And that means we gotta get OUR oil out from under all that mid-east sand.

China is important because they are the source for all that cheap bling-bling that the sheeple buy at Wally-World to keep themselves amused and ignorant.

2. NO, PNAC wants hot wars, particularly in SW Asia
where a certain ally of the US can achieve economic/geographic enhancements to its security and I am not talking Turkey.

3. Problem with hot wars
is all those coffins. A Cold War still has all of the money transfer from the taxpayers to Halliburton, et. al., without those annoying grieving families hogging face time on the evening news.

5. Of course they are.
I feel as if I have gone back in time to the fifties and sixties. The population is much more sheeplike when our shores are threatened with invasion real or imagined.

Then the government can ask you to make sacrifices. Pay your taxes without question and don't expect anything in return because we are being threatened by the enemy. We must build more airplanes, more warships, more weapons of mass destruction because we are being threatened by the enemy.

We must send our young people into the military and into war because we are being threatened by the enemy. You mustn't complain about what we do in secret because our shores are being threatened by the enemy.

The problem is that the real enemy isn't so clearly defined these days. In WWII, it was the Nazis and the Japs (sorry for the word, but that is how they were defined in WWII.) After WWII up to the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was the communists. Any country, anyone, or anything that was communist were the enemy. You had to hate communists and conduct a war with them whether hot or cold.

So who are we supposed to hate today, the French and some ill defined terrorsts? The definition of the enemy is a little wobbly today, so I think dusting off old hates for North Koreans and Russians isn't going to work as well as it did back then.

6. they just want perpetual war
thats what pays the bills for them (and buying politicians isnt cheap)

they've been looking for the 'perfect' war since they discovered there was money to be made prosecuting war (perfect meaning: long running, costly)

they thought they had one in Vietnam, no end game, continuous, but, the body bags got in the way

so, they found a new one, the war on drugs, no victory possible or expected, just continuous fighting, but people started realizing the drug war was doing more harm than the drugs did, so they had to find another 'perfect' war

now it's 'terrorism', which is the new perpetual war, impossible to win (especially when your enemy is a tactic, not an entity), but sellable as a war we cant not fight

its all about the $ made by the war machine

drug war, iraqi war, vietnam war

if there was a way to make money helping homeless ppl, homelessness would be a thing of the past

if there was a way to make money providing health care for the poor, we'd be the healthiest nation in history

follow the money, its the only thing that matters to these people, which is insane, since, in cases like the Bush Family they have more than 15 generations could ever spend, money is just how they keep score
