1. Consider the source!
Hannity is so full of it; please don't take him so seriously. Now, I understand lots of people do and that IS a problem, but, really, he is a complete jackass.

20. Yawn
Just more monkey-blather from one of the "I'll say anything" right-wing media whores. This surprises you? This is coming from the same assholes who shriek that Hitler was somehow a liberal because the Nazis were National Socialists. They conveniently forget that Hitler hated communists and demonized them almost as much as the Jews.

Here's an excellent link outlining the differences between liberalism and socialism.

Edited on Thu Jul-31-03 07:49 PM by LoZoccolo
Just get to Red Canada and you'll see what I mean! Police on every corner! The people who are deemed to be no longer useful to the state are left to die in the socialized health care system! They have bulldozed down all the religious institutions and built museums enshrining their leaders! The media is completely banned except for that controlled by the state!

And they're RIGHT NEXT DOOR!

17. Facism? They aren't shooting that high.
Facism would be a step up from the Feudal system that is the true Republican Dream. Yep, the good old days of lords & ladies, divine right of kings, indentured servants, et al. Just can't figure how they're going to try to "bring back" the dragons and other mythical creatures.

5. That's the "new" GOP demonization talking point
that we are socializing, anti-capitalist communists. Never mind that society as a whole assembles our volunteer army to fight these neo-con wars they are so hot for.
I say the counter spin is: No, we are for a STRONG FEDERAL gov't. role in protecting our well-being. Both domestically (think EPA, employee rights, etc.) and abroad.

7. Did you hear any audio of the debate on imported drugs?
Who was it (sounded like Henry Hyde) bellowing on the house floor "I bet you perscription drugs were cheap in the Soviet Union!"

At what point to the American people realize that the GOP has fallen off the deep edge, or do we realize that a lot of the American people have fallen off the deep edge with them, and start thinking about sucession.

9. Why?
Pure capitalism is doomed to failure. We are a democracy with socialist features.

The government controls the money supply.

The government collects taxes and re-distributes wealth using tax credits and deductions to reward behaviours it values.

The government funds the pension plan for most americans.

The government controls or regulates almost all facets of our lives.

Hannity is just yelling "boo" to people too stupid to think for themselves.

And if he is suggesting that Smirk is not leading the charge for further socialism, call the asshole up and ask him why government spending is at an all time record high. It's just that Smirk's form of socialism rewards his wealthy henchmen and fucks the people who are working to generate the wealth and the military people who fight our wars.

He is just spewing the propoganda that we are ANTI-AMERICAN.
Don't you get it? Democrats HATE AMERICA!
They are communists. They are everything wrong with this country.
9/11 was THEIR Fault!

Man, I guess you missed the memo. :eyes:

But you're right. People listen to the jackass 'cause they are stupid and probably can't read either.

10. The neo-conservative dream is selective socialism
Well, corporate feudalism is more like it. The GOP socializes the weapons, petroleum, and agriconglomerates with subsidies and tax breaks, while the citizens absorbs the costs and risks.

I don't get where assholes like Hannity can get off accusing one party of socialism while the GOP systems stinks of socialism to high heaven.

21. just that is treating a symptom and not the source
Edited on Thu Jul-31-03 03:28 PM by Aidoneus
We have these endless wars and endless parades of invented demons because of the way the economic order is organized. It's like one of RichM's previous threads off DU1, take all of these other subjects off the table first and your criticism of mere symptoms is toothless and easily ignored--just as power wants you to be.

What Hannity would really be miffed at is asking why these things keep happening and who benefits--and maybe, why people like Hannity are paid so much to browbeat people into not asking these questions.

22. What is "Socialism" to a guy - Hannity - with no education or IQ
I am certain that he picks up on socialism as common ownership (but does not understand something like "all living things share the earth - and Man should not act as God to determine who must die and who lives and who lives well").

Of Course all the resources of the world being owned in common by the entire global population is not real - one can easily see the need for goods for personal consumption, rather than to share – clothes, for example. Does Hannity understand that People ‘owning’ certain personal possessions does not contradict the principle of a society based upon common ownership?

In practice, common ownership will mean everybody having the right to participate in decisions on how global resources will be used - which just sounds like Democratic control. So private ownership rights are limited by the common good - gee - just like they are today in ANY functioning society! Are we all Socialists?

The idea that folks have rights to make decisions on how to organise the production of goods and services - union or non-union is favored, 40 hour work week, etc., should not upset Fox Cable News.

What I am sure upsets Fox is the right of folks to decide what "needs" are to be included in the practice of "from each according to ability, to each according to needs" - I suspect perscription drugs is not a need that Hannity would favor.

But in a Democratic system the "needs" that are to be provided will vary by the cultures preferences and with individual preferences - does that make us Socialists?

Indeed, where Democratic party members leave the Socialist fold is in the understanding that greed and private ownership are required motivators for the improvement in the common good. Democratic Party folks do not demand the end of the market place - not everything need be "free" - just basic needs must be met, and our universe of basic needs is much larger than the universe of basic needs that our GOP friends would have met. We - Dem and GOP - all endorse a system of payment for the work that each individual contributes to producing goods - something not needed in true socialism. No one I know is into pure and only voluntary work.

Or they'd be doing it.
