What sort of emotions does Smirk feel...
...on those rare occasions when Rove lets him out of the cocoon? Do you think that after a few weeks of successfully reading off the teleprompter, reciting scripted answers to softball questions, and upchucking sound bites without drooling on himself, he starts to believe that he's actually a statesman?

If so, then what happens when he actually has to attend a meeting with other world leaders, and he realizes that he's as far out of his depth as me playing in an NBA game? What sort of emotions get him through these humiliating experiences? WHat happens when the meeting's over? DOes he head for Camp David and a few dozen bottles lof Lone Star, and wake up a couple days later thinking he's Churchill again?

I'm a people observer and would love to figure out what makes this guy tick.

1. I don't know but . . .
it was obvious from his "performance" during the SOU speech that his entire face was sarcastic as hell. He was more animated in his facial expressions than usual. Usually he seems to speak from a deep fog of emotionlessness, but he was different that day. Almost like he was making fun of the whole process of being President. Scaringly honest.

It will be interesting to see which Bush shows up for Meet the Whore on Sunday.

2. Seems to me that he gets more and more incoherent the more they
let him go "off script." He just has zero command of the English language and sounds like a moron...
He must have bought those Cs at Yale...no way he earned 'em!

3. I know for sure two emotions he feels
are being immensely pleased with his cleverness, and vengeance at smiting evildoers. Besides that, it gets a little fuzzy.

4. He Is A Man
His inner feelings are much like any other man's. His inability to articulate does not invalidate his feelings; if anything it reinforces his feelings.

When in doubt, go watch "High Noon;" simple, simplistic and shallow. Not much there, but deadly all the same.

In the end, who cares what makes him tick?

13. I care
"In the end, who cares what makes him tick?"

Because he is the leader of our country, and EVERYONE should be concerned about what makes him tick..He's an insane, cold hearted madman. It scares me when I think of what he has already done....to think what he will do next. Having a drunk, unstable partisan in the Oval office is like watching a suicide bomber about to go off. :scared:

6. On a simplistic level,
Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 11:46 AM by CalamityJane
the heart of a narcissist alternates between fear and bravado. I think he has divided the world in two and discounts the opinions of anyone but his core supporters. How else could he have had the nerve to say to Tom Dacshle in January 2001, "I hope you'll never lie to me?" Who would be so crass to say something like that except an arrogant person who had already decided Daschle was an "enemy."? I think hate gets him through, because he has already decided he is superior to everyone.

7. Kurt Vonnegut summed it up perfectly
George Bush has a psychopathic personality. That is he has no emotional connection to those his descisions effect. Such social monsters can rise far in power structures because they are willing to do things to advance themself that no normal person would consider. They wear an aura of personal power as well. It is a comlete disregard for others that enables them to advance.

8. People with Narcissistic Personality Disorder do not have
empathy for others. They act out certain emotions for the crowd but inside are devoid of any capability to actually feel for others. Their two most prominent emotions are rage and fear.

9. A little more info on NPD
Narcissistic Personality Disorder
An all-pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behaviour), need for admiration or adulation and lack of empathy, usually beginning by early adulthood and present in various contexts. Five (or more) of the following criteria must be met:
1. Feels grandiose and self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
2. Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion
3. Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions)
4. Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation - or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (narcissistic supply)
5. Feels entitled. Expects unreasonable or special and favourable priority treatment.
6. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her expectations Is "interpersonally exploitative", i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends
7. Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with or acknowledge the feelings and needs of others
8. Constantly envious of others or believes that they feel the same about him or her
9. Arrogant, haughty behaviours or attitudes coupled with rage when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted
Some of the language in the criteria above is based on or summarized from: American Psychiatric Association. (1994). Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders, fourth edition (DSM IV). Washington, DC American Psychiatric Association. The text in italics is based on: Sam Vaknin - Malignant Self Love - Narcissism Revisited. For the exact language of the DSM IV criteria (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) - please refer to the manual itself !!! http://samvak.tripod.com/npdglance.html

11. This would explain
his petulance - "Who cares what you think?", "Guy thinks he's bilingual", etc.

I can't wait for Gail Sheehy to do a 300-pages analysis of bunnypants.

10. Let's dig a little deeper and find out, shall we?
http://www.levanco.com/raisingrichkids.htm

Gerald Le Van is a Mill Valley psychiatrist who wrote a book called "Raising Rich Kids! Growing Up Wealthy...and Human!"

The URL above is his website, which esssentially lays out his premise about who children of fortune are, what makes them tick, why they fail, and why they succeed.

Here's just one of the many, many examples that will make you say "I know that guy"...

"It’s hard to be part of a dynasty. Parental expectations can be particularly excessive if the family has an established tradition of wealth and position. Dynastic families raise their children under considerable pressure for high achievement and general excellence, whether personally, socially, or at school. While this works well for some inheritors, it works against others. This is especially true if the same standards are applied across the board to all children, regardless of talents or aptitudes. It's also hard to establish an individual identity, rather than being seen as part of the family dynasty, particularly if the parents are well-known."

. . and he gets that smirk on his face, it's because he has a hardon.

Probably the only time he get's em.
