Layoffs where I work....
I work for a small company and before today we had 80 employees...after today we only have 50....I survived today but it is so hard watching people here pack up their things and go home with tears in their eyes. Another round of job cuts could come in the next few weeks.... :-(

Where is Bill Clinton and a responsible and caring administration when you need it the most!

1. I feel for you
I went through the same experience, and I am also expecting more layoffs soon at my workplace. Will the last American worker to be outsourced please turn out the lights?

11. no.
but, I haven't been looking aggressively yet. it did quite a bit of searching earlier in January and didn't find a single thing I could APPLY for... it's grim.

praying I can make a 'go' of it with my own graphic design/writing business. (and I have a book proposal that I'm putting together. Bev H. offered to help me find a NYC agent for it.)

and, I have some DU contacts to follow-up with too.

need to get this BEHIND me first.

(and, actually, I've decided not to go in today either. so tomorrow will be it.)

3. I am sorry to hear that
Both of us have been through several rounds of layoffs during the past 15 years. What really worries me is whether we will ever see the rebound of the 90s.

Many of these jobs, with their income and benefits will never come back. Yet executives' income keep spiraling upward as well as the one of Wall Street bankers.

I think that it was on Lou Dobbs yesterday when someone said that this is not a jobless recovery, but a job loss one.

I hope that you live in a large community where chances for even temporary jobs are available.

5. I don't know "John"

Does the Constitution say that the government must provide tax breaks and incentives for the outsourcing of "civilian sector" jobs? And what do think the phrase "promote the general welfare" means?

6. I think the point here is
that the economy is in such a dire state due to the unbridled spending and tax cuts for millionaires of Bush and the Congress and the large deficit that has caused.

7. I am sorry.
I am in the same boat (very big, it turns out) with your ex-coworkers. I probably won't have a job come May. And my job is to keep students in school. No Child Left Behind, my ass.

8. While I hate to hear news like this...Clinton did sign NAFTA.
But in his defence I believe that he recently admitted that he f'ed that one up now that the results are in. Too bad he didn't listen to the people that fought it tooth and nail 10 years ago...And, unless I'm mistaken, most of the Dems running are pro-Free Trade not pro-Fair Trade. FTAA? How many oppose that? Not many.

Good luck in the next round of layoffs, hopefully there won't be anymore though.

10. Join the club
:-(

I'm sorry for your coworkers. I'm in the same boat. It's been extremely difficult to find another job. Somedays I give up altogether. I hope the economy will pick up after we boot * out of office in November. Hate to say it, but I think we're in for a holding pattern til November. I just hope I can last that long. Otherwise I'll be working at Wal-Mart to get by.
