Tom Daschle's wife is a lobbyist for Boeing.
Boeing, the nation’s second largest defense contractor, received $17 billion in defense contracts in 2002. Boeing lobbyists include Linda Daschle (wife of Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle) and Chris Williams, a member of the Defense Policy Board who also lobbies for TRW and Northrop Grumman. In 2001, Boeing moved its corporate headquarters to Chicago, where it received more than $60 million in state and local tax exemptions and subsidies. In September 2002, Boeing began increased “smart bomb” production in anticipation of increased US military demand. This production campaign followed more than $1 billion in combined “smart bomb” orders from Boeing and Raytheon. <11>

2. That doesn't seem at all like a conflict of interest?
Hmmm... represent my constituency or represent my wife adn the company that pays my family all that money.

Just seems a little bullshit to me.

3. Ed Gillespie (RNC head) carried Enron's water for years
Nobody ever mentions this.

If you're looking for whores, follow the antics of Billy Tauzin (R-LA). He's about to find the mother of all jobs.

5. I expect to find the RNC in bed with Big Business. It is just
disappointing to see such a blatant tie to defense contracts and big business from a prominent member of the party that supposedly looks after the little guy.

Reinforces my belief that we need Kucinich

6. All of the above are big conflicts of interest.
Daschle's wife should give it up. I'm in a similar position with a wife who is very well known, even famous, in her profession. I am very circumspect because of that. To wit: the bumper stickers go on my car, not her's. The "Liberal Opinion" and "The Nation" and "Texas Observer" come to me, not her. She is just as left as I am, but it is not a good idea for her to flaunt it like I do. I'm the family radical. But you should hear us at dinner at The Grape (on lower Greenville in Dallas) after a few glasses of their great house wines! We scorch the repukes ears.

7. Check Wendy Gramm's record. Former Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX) is her hubbie
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 11:33 PM by Bozita
Wendy sat on some boards with less than stellar reputations. Some are under investigation at this time.

Senator Phil Gramm has certainly voted in ways that benefitted his own pocketbook.

BTW, I totally agree with you on the entire Daschle thing.

8. we here at DU should form a group that looks into these things. Perhaps
pressure could be applied to some. Formulate a list and distribute it. We need to take our country and our representatives BACK from Big Business, especially those with ties to oil and defense.

10. maybe she could help you find a job with boewing?
and if not, you could start writing letters to newspapers to get that info out to smash the slimely bastard. if htat turncoat Tauzin can use his position to get a big pharmacuticle job, Dashle's wife ought to be able to help you, and if not, screw him -- hes' a slimebagg anyway. he goes along with the Bushies way too much. just look at all the judges that the repukes got through, and they cry about the few that we were able to Bork.

anyway, we need to get Dashle out of the way so we can get a REAL Democrat in there in his place.
