There's a sea change happenin' in the US of A
This evening my brother-in-law announced to his wife he would be voting Democratic.

This is a man who has lived in Dallas Texas all his life (he's forty eight years old), and is as Republican Redneck as you can get. He listens to Rush Boy and O'Really religiously, and has been in the "I still think Bush is God" club since things have started going sour for one and all. (He's an ex-Worldcom telco man, having lost his job in their grand implosion. He's been struggling through shit jobs since.)

That he would announce such a thing is unthinkable. It's remarkable. It's downright miraculous!

If someone like him can see the light, then the weather is indeed changing. I feel something new in the wind. We're gonna win! (And that's the first time I've had even a small amount of conviction while saying those words!)

1. It's true. The times they are a' changin'
I'm hearing people out in public saying bad things about Bush. I hear it in here all the time, but out on the streets it's unusual for people to be talking about politics. And, I'm hearing it from people I would expect to be Bush fans. i.e. white males.
Bush is in big trouble.
The world will celebrate his defeat

2. Many like him, but have you heard of someone switching to Bush?
Look at it this way, Gore won the popular vote. There is lots of anecdotal evidence of people souring on Georgie boy and jumping ship. Although I am sure that some people (who should be hospitalized or have their meds adjusted) may have switched to support the Reich, they have to be few in number.

Congrats to your B-I-L for seeing the light.

4. I'd love to think it was me
and all those DU articles I e-mail him each week.

But I don't really know what got to him, and I'm afraid to ask for fear of hexing it... :nuke:

I do believe the worm has turned...But damn it, it's going to take twenty years to undo what the jackass-in-chief has done.

8. I think David Kay's bombshell blew a few GOP minds
they tried to spin it, and they still are, but I think a whole lotta people who took the bait and put their trust in Bushco and Colin Powell are having their minds BLOWN by the fact that there aren't any WMD.

Americans may not be that bright sometimes, but they sure as hell don't like to be made fools of.

10. Kay is Huge. The Iraq War
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 12:31 AM by Mayberry Machiavelli
even more than the 2000 election, is the Original Sin staining this administration. Nothing is bigger than committing this country to war on what is obviously a pack of lies. The deaths of U.S. servicemen and Iraqi civilians. I think the most fundamental thing happening here is America taking a whole different look at the Iraq invasion/occupation as a result of David Kay. They don't like what they see, either in the country or in themselves for having supported it.

This is also why the AWOL issue has so much resonance RIGHT NOW. Because people are rapidly being disgusted by the whole phenonmenon of the war, NOW is the time to pound into these people who they were led into war by. A priviliged frat boy who couldn't even be bothered to show up for his own cushy service. And for non candidates to be stoking this media fire is the best of all...

All we need is some prime time, 60 Minutes, 20/20 interviews with double amputee vets at Walter Reed registering their disgust upon learning about AWOL's TANG nonservice... Nail. Coffin.

9. Hey PN6
off topic here - Valentine's Day is coming up. Perhaps you could repost that picture of your parents you posted way back when. It's one of the most romantic pictures I've ever seen. That was you, wasn't it? Anyway, I thought it would be a treat for all the DUers who never saw it.

12. A Mood Change Is Good, BUT
A mood change is good, firing George Deucey-U would be very good, but I'm afraid that too many anti-Bush partisans are going to miss the big picture this autumn. To effect a genuine sea change in the way that the federal and state governments, voters aren't only going to need to fire the pResident, but also every elected Republican official they can vote out of office.

What's being done to us isn't a solo act at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, it's being done by the Republican Party. Firing the incumbent and leaving so many Republicans in place elsewhere only sets American citizen/voters up for more of what the GOP was doing to the country during the Clinton administration.
