Intelligence Chief's Bombshell: 'We Were Overruled on Dossier'

by Paul Waugh

The intelligence official whose revelations stunned the Hutton inquiry into the death of government scientist David Kelly has suggested that not a single defense intelligence expert backed Tony Blair's most contentious claims on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

As Mr Blair yesterday set up an inquiry into intelligence failures before the war, Brian Jones, the former leading expert on WMD in the Ministry of Defense, declared that Downing Street's dossier, a key plank in convincing the public of the case for war, was "misleading" about Saddam Hussein's chemical and biological capability.

Writing in today's Independent, Dr Jones, who was head of the nuclear, chemical and biological branch of the Defense Intelligence Staff until he retired last year, reveals that the experts failed in their efforts to have their views reflected.

Dr Jones says: "In my view, the expert intelligence analysts of the DIS were overruled in the preparation of the dossier back in September 2002, resulting in a presentation that was misleading about Iraq's capabilities."

1. This is a day that will live in infamy!
Bush is not a happy carefree pampered playboy any more after today! You just gotta' love watching him crash and burn with not a soul to blame, but himself and his greedy partners in crime!

Powell is on their case over the Superbowl thing I'd bet! I hope it turns into a free for all! Powell's kid is a total Bush drone and so is Colin Powell! Powell goes all the way back to Nixon and the cover up of the Nixon Mob's mass murder sprees in Nam! Powell is just as bad as any of the Bushco Mob!

4. I think this is humongous!
The Brit intellegence people have been playing their cards close to their chests and then BLAM!!

It was Vreeland who said a couple of years ago that it would be the intelligence community that would expose the truth about 9/11. I guess that is coming next.

5. the cia and the m5(?)
is cooperating in releasing all this stuff. they are sending retired agents out to talk about stuff. there was a retired cia guy on bbc the other night explaining just what is going to happen and how it is going to happen. once an agent- always an agent ,you never retire.
i think the guys that run the cia are so pissed about the plame affair and the damage that was done to their network and credibility in the world. what do the syrians think now? is there any way they can trust the cia when the bush whitehouse can do this to one of their own? the bush whitehouse has compromised the security of this country...
