Poll question: The AWOL Tar Baby: When Will Bush Step Front and Center?
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 04:36 PM by SpiralHawk
The AWOL issue is definitely a Tar Baby by now. More attention coming to it from the apologists than the actual critics.

Has the issue hit critical mass yet with the public or the military?

Will Bush be forced to come out before the press and the public and address this issue in person? And if so, when?

1. We've got him coming and going
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 04:46 PM by rocknation
Even if he were to come up with the appropriate records, he'd have to explain why he sat on them since he entered politics. He's got a golden--nay, PLATINUM--opportunity to shut his critics up and regain some measure of credibility. So why hasn't he done it? Is there someone out there who could fatally refute him, or is this his idea of an October surprise?

2. Bush* is gonna be very scripted. Others will speak for him*.
He* will be portrayed as above the fray. He* will only speak before roaring partisan crowds and in interviews where the questions are given in advance. No way will bush* allow himself to be embarrassed. Would Churchill do that and bush* just compared himself* to Churchill.

3. Reality B is now mainstream
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 04:50 PM by jokerman2004
Those of us left who care about the truth (reality A) are being aggressively marginalized. Currently, the media has America so uninformed, befuddled, cowed and humiliated (watching any reality TV lately?) that the truth, when it gets out, brings a disturbing cognitive dissonance with everything they think is solid and certain.

The truth when insisted upon, now qualifies as paranoia and hatred. You don't have to believe in little grey men anymore to be stigmatized when you challenge the mainstream reality B. All you have to do these days is ask obvious questions.

I think the plan is to just keep dismissing and ignoring us till we get overwhelmed by the mass Walmart slave culture that is gathering steam -- and then in a generation or so, we'll all die off.

Reality B becomes Reality A and Junior was a high-speed ANG pilot with an honorable service record.

6. Alas, I am inclined to agree with Jokerman
"I think the plan is to just keep dismissing and ignoring us till we get overwhelmed by the mass Walmart slave culture that is gathering steam."

I would add to that, Distractions of Mass Distraction.
Coming soon to a Boob Toob near you.

10. The problem is that the American people sense that the Democratic party
The problem is that the American people sense that the Democratic party, when it raises objections to the policies of Bush and points out the various wrongdoings of bush, is avoiding pointing out the really BIG wrongdoings perpetrated by BOTH parties.

4. The AWOL issue certainly seems to be getting the attention
of the apologists. I think Bush will have to try to stonewall all the way. He has no paper to back him up. I truly believe he got all tangled up in a drug thingie and had to get Poppy's friends to bail him out. If the press looks into this wholeheartedly, he's done.

5. They showed the honorable discharge
paper and are now going to say subject closed. Dems have got to keep at this. On top of the WMD lies it just piles onto the lack of credibility issue. The public is just coming to the realization that he lies.

8. There ya go. Judy Woodruff said it,
so it must be true.
"Isn't his honorable discharge evidence that he served his obligation?"

I sent her an e-mail and explained that the HD is NOT "evidence" that he satisfied his obligation. It IS evidence that his commanding officers disregarded military regulations and had to cover their own butts for giving him a pass.

I an't holding my breath until I get a retraction.

7. I like the Tar Baby metaphor.
Everytime they open their mouths a new question about his service arises. Like why was he grounded? How did he get his commission with no training? I'm sure we can find an almost endless number of questions.

9. Why would Bush let his record be distorted?
Does anyone think for one second that John Kerry or any Veteran for that matter would let someone distort their war record without publicly responding themselves? You would think if these "AWFUL" charges agaisnt Bush are false, he would be foaming at the mouth trying to dismiss them. Instead he is hiding behind his RNC Chairman. That is suspicious.

12. I repost this from the thread you linked...
Yeah but imagine

a couple thousand Vets, accompanied by any and/or all of the Democratic candidates, senators, congresscritters (to insure the cops don't start pushing folks around unnecessarily), everybody's got photocopies of their military records, signs, buttons and bumper stickers to pass out to spectators, all gather in the closest "free speech zone" to the TV studio with mock coffins, whistles, bullhorns drums, chanting in unison, "Dubya, Dubya, Dubya, WHERE WERE YOU IN 72?" Oh yeah, and don't forget the sea of flags.

They're taping that thing. Could take HOURS!!! ;-)
