Voting at the mall???
"SANTA ANA, Calif. - In between visits to the Gap, Cinnabon and Victoria's Secret, why not choose a president?

Voting kiosks installed at six Orange County malls will allow registered voters to cast ballots electronically while they shop."

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=548&ncid=703&e=7&u=/ap/20040204/ap_on_el_ge/mall_voting

Great way to get the younger folks to vote. Too bad the votes won't be tallied right, though.

3. Our county has an early voting site in the mall.
It's really convenient and efficently run. Of course, we have electronic voting, so who knows if our votes are counted correctly, but at least we try...:-)

7. eSlates??
thanks for the welcome.

this is what i found so far:
http://www.hartintercivic.com/news/hart_news.asp?id=62>

"Orange County bought 9,000 electronic voting tablets, called eSlates, last spring from Texas-based Hart InterCivic Inc. Choices are selected by turning a dial to highlight a candidate's name, then pushing the "enter" button."

The equipment can be modified - at additional cost of course- to produce paper receipts..

this is the first i've heard of this company. i thought the main culprits were Diebold and Sequoia.

10. MD Voters!!! There's a hearing Tuesday Feb. 10 about
HB 53 and the sad state of voting in Maryland.

(sorry to post this here, but i'm too new to start threads apparently.)

People need to sign in by 11:00 to testify -- if you want to testify we can sign you onto the list. People will have three minutes as an individual and five minutes if they represent a group. We need people from all over the state (geographic diversity is important), with a variety of backgrounds and ethnic/racial make-up and a variety of politcal party and other affiliations.

Please let truevotemd.org know if you are interested or able to do this.

THIS IS A CRITICAL MOMENT IN THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS. WE NEED YOUR
SUPPORT NOW!

If you cannot be there in person, please submit written testimony. This can be in the form of a formal letter. Please include where you are from as well as your reasons.

FYI -- You can see our report responding to the Maryland Legislative
Services Report (the topic of last week's briefing) that we are
providing to legislators and others today at
http://truevotemd.org/2004-02-04_cant_trust_paperless.pdf.

Finally, we have put a new action alert on our website -- this one is directed to the Ways and Means Committee members. Please send a letter yourself -- and tell five other people to do so as well. This is the time to flood their email with support for HB 53. See:
