I just canceled my DirecTV subscription today.

When asked by customer service why I was terminating, I said, "Rupert Murdoch". They must be having quite a few cancelations because she knew just what I was talking about, and explained that he bought "only" 36% of the company. I said, he'll not get a dime of my money if I can help it. She then offered me a $10 monthly discount. I said I'd pay $20 extra per month not to subsidize Murdoch.

She was very congenial and nice, as was I. She's just trying to earn a living. I wished her a nice day and hung up.

And yes, when I said it was because of Murdock, they didn't question me any further, and graciously cancelled me...

I switched to Dish...worth it for the Free Speech network alone (have I ever become a junkie of this channel!!!)

5. I switched back to Dish too

I had Dish for 6 years, and when I moved to Florida from Cleveland a year ago I switched to DirecTV because Murdoch was trying to buy Dish at the time, and I wanted the NFL Season Ticket so I could watch the Browns. But. I'm back again.

considering purchasing DirecTv. I told them pretty much the same thing.

I switched to Dish and am very pleased, especially with the free speech channel. Dish is also one of the better corporations re: ownership and operation. I hope this spreads fast. There are also some outstanding promotions--free DVD player, etc--if you shop around.
