Clinton had a once in a lifetime educational opportunity at Oxford.

He joined the inactive reserves and promised Colonel Holmes he would join the active reserves upon his return from Oxford.

He completed one year and was in his second year when he got notification he had been accepted into the Yale Law School.

He returned home to Hot Springs to prepare for entry into Yale.

He signed up for the DRAFT since it was required by law.

This was confirmed by his friends, his fellow students at Oxford and, in 1992, by the only surviving member of the draft board.

His problem--He write a letter to Colonel Holmes and stated "thanks for saving me from the draft".

He error. He should have written "thanks for saving me from the draft so I could take advantage of a once in a lifetime educational opportunity".

BILL CLINTON SIGNED FOR THE DRAFT.PERIOD.

He received a high number which meant he would not be called since few were at that time.

Critics hit on "Yes! He knew he would get a high number".

2. I never could understand the fuss

over this. It was really rather brave of Clinton to write that letter and put his name on the draft. Repukes were always saying that he had planned on the Presidency from when he was young. This wouldn't have been the right move then. He followed his conscience, he didn't say that he "had better things to do" like Cheney or play dress up like Bush*.
