YEEHAA! Pryor blocked!
Pardon my Rebel Yell, but my own dear sweet AG, Bill Pryor, has been blocked by the mean ol' Dems for a seat on the court of appeals.
Awwwww
:-(
BTW, Zell Miller (D, GA) and Ben Nelson (D. NE) are the only 2 DINOs who voted for him.

Pryor blocked from U.S. Appeals Court by Democrats

July 31, 2003 - Senate Republicans today lost their third attempt this week to push one of President Bush's judicial nominees through the Senate, with Democrats blocking conservative Alabama Attorney General William Pryor from the U-S Appeals Court.

6. good news but not GREAT news....
It was just a vote for cloture which reqiuires 60 affirmative votes..they will try again and again and again...until Hatch and Frist play the nuclear card and change the procedure. Then it will be HORRIBLE news !!

9. Article didn't mention cloture
but here's the rule:
Under the cloture rule (Rule XXII), the Senate may limit consideration of a pending matter to 30 additional hours, but only by vote of three-fifths of the full Senate, normally 60 votes.

2. I am wondering...
BTW, Zell Miller (D, GA) and Ben Nelson (D. NE) are the only 2 DINOs who voted for him.

So did all the R's vote for him? Is only a majority needed? So how did this block occur?

23. All the Repukes voted "aye"...
but they only had 53 votes, short of the 60 required to invoke cloture.

11. trof, with our luck here in 'Bama,
he'll end up Chief Justice of the ASC after Roy gets elected Guv. In which case the nation should thank us for not inflicting the rest of the country with either of them.

15. Hunts Vegas
Another transplant who married a native, learned the Skynyrd lyrics, and lived happily ever after :) (at least as of this writing). I go through Foley on the way to Gulf B-) Shores. We couldn't be too much farther apart and still be in 'Bama!

21. None that I know of
Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 07:20 AM by PapaClay
It's just a nickname I picked up from some musician friends. Probably a jab at our nightlife and music scene as compared to Atlanta & Nashville.

on edit: Of course based on our relatively broad diversity and the presence of liberals, bars, movies and a few adult shops, Mr Pryor would no doubt pick either Sodom or Gommorha.

18. Ahhhrrgh! Don't say that out loud!
It's too awful! (And likely)

Hey, all you Alabamians!:hi:

This is good news! Too bad we still have to put up with Pryor here, but at least he can do less harm as our AG than as a Federal Judge.

22. At least the Dems in the Senate have convictions....
If Gephardt (my favorite whipping boy) was in the Senate he probably would have abstained from voting. G-d forbid he vote against a right-winger! It may alienate the Klan vote in Missouri!

DISCLAIMER: Portions of the above (the references to the Klan vote in MO) were intended as sarcasm. To the best of my knowledge the Klan has not endorsed Gephardt.

;)
