Bush to dump CHENEY for GIULIANI?
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 11:56 AM by digno dave
Cheney is dead weight right now and there is no reason to believe it will change. Giuliani has been campaigning for Bush recently...NH comes to mind. I think it is obvious that Giuliani wants to get back into politics and he has the highest of aspirations. I have read on various sites that all this leads to a good possibility that Cheney will be dumped for G. If this is true...YIKES!!!
This would put NY, NJ and maybe other NE states into play for the republicans. This would be a brilliant move on the part of Rove. This scares the S out of me, to be honest. We could then be looking at facing Giuliani or Jeb in 2008.
Any thoughts on the likelihood of this happening and the dynamics it will bring to the Presidential election>

1. Hadn't heard this
I had heard that Guiliani might run in 2008, but not that he'd be vice president. As for that, I don't think he's gonna get involved this year. If Bush picks another vice president, I'm guessing it will be Condoleeza Rice

2. Watch Frist
Giuliani, or however you spell that brown-nosers name..is too easy of a target...he has dirt all over him.

Seriously, keep your eye on Frist for the next 8 years; he's the one the Republicans are going to start moving up.

3. I've already seen "Bush/Cheny 04" stickers on cars around here
Would they re-do all their campaign stuff? I don't think this will happen. Cheney pulls the strings, and I doubt he's done looting the treasury.

4. "Think * will choose Powell as a running mate? "
See this thread in GD2004 (and numerous replies that speculate on Condi, McCain, Rudy, et al as replacements for the Heartless One):

5. Rice would seem like the perfect choice for B*sh's new VP, in order
to bring in women and blacks, but if he does it, then he is instantly no longer assassination-proof. Dumb move. Don't think it will happen.

9. Here's how he'll do it..
Giuliani has some "personal baggage", so they will do the whole convention extravaganza thing, and Cheney will campaign like normal.. Somewhere around mid to late October, he will be rushed to the hospital (probably already has a reservation) and the doctors will say that the stress has aggravated his heart condition, and although he is a TRUE PATRIOT and would love to continue, the doctors are insisting that he "take it easy"..

In waltzes the "9-11 Hero of the Day" to save yet another day.. The election will be sooo close in time, and the faithful will be too afraid to bring up the BLATANT ADULTERY, and the other failings of 'Ole Rudy.. ..

That's how they will do it..

Cheney?? He'll emerge from the hospital , wave to the crowd, and then slink off to the White House basement , until he's sure that Giuliani can control junior.. When Poppy says it's ok, Dick will get a u-haul for all the money he stole, and head off to Texas and into the loving arms of Halliburton..:)

11. Isn't Guiliani a little
too liberal for the Reuke base? They have to have the religious right turn out and I don't think they would approve of someone like Rudy. I think they may try a vp switch but someone more conservative. Maybe McCain? He was stumping for Bush in NH too. Couldn't believe he would do that after what was done to him.

13. Not only that, but Guiliani is an asshole at heart.
Of course, so are Bush and Cheney, but Giuliani is more of a loose cannon asshole.

15. Yes - Guiliani is a very ambitious loose cannon, and Bushco
may have worries about controlling him. He is also too liberal for the base. I do think that Cheney will leave, because he doesn't want to run for Pres in '08, and would be a liability in that role anyway. He is too scary and secretive for most Americans.

I believe that if Cheney leaves, then Li'l Jebbie will be substituted. I think that they will not risk having anyone other than a Bush in place for '08. Rudy, or whoever else, will rightfully want the Big Chair in '08, and isn't going to back down for Jeb or anybody else. I really think they'll try to install Jebthro as VP. It may happen as SoCalDem describes above, Cheney leaving a month before the election for health reasons, Jeb pressed into service to his country, etc. It could happen...
