Poll question: Could suddenly 'finding' Osama Save Bush's Ass?
Even supposing OBL turns up in a compost heap somewhere in Katmandu next October, will it save Bush's 49%-reelect hide?

1. Rove: "Run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes . . . "
They'll try anything! I wouldn't rule out the medieval tradition of OBL's head on a stake on FOX.

6. I have to vote for the clicky thing.
As much as I'd like to believe that people would see right through an October "capture" of OBL, I can't bring myself to that level of delusion. Most people are indeed sheep. Please, God, let me be full of shit on this.

OTOH, similar staged events that were supposed to boost the Smirking Chimp have had only temporary effectiveness, and in diminishing intensity each time.

7. If he dies a natural death (or has died, if you believe such things)...
...then it is of no assistance to the idiot in chief. If US troops capture and imprison him alive, that would certainly help *.

But, I'm guessing OBL is already dead from kidney failure...

8. We Can Make it a No...
...by borrowing from the reagan '80 book and start warning about the "October Surprize". This may however, have been worn out by the smirk/sneer administration by overuse.

9. Probably will only give him a marginal boost
Bush spent so much time building Saddam up as the villain that Osama may not register with the stupid sheep. Plus, every suspected Al Queda member who is killed or captured is said to be a "key figure" in the 9/11 attacks. This may also dillute Osama's importance. There was a small boost of support when Saddam was captured. I expect about the same when Osama is captured (more or less depending on how much the press wants to milk the story). The major question is: Once we have these guys in custody, what are we going to do with them?

10. It will all depend on the timing.
If Osama is miraculously captured about 72 hours before election day, then the "boost" that would give to Bush's popularity could make his "winning" the election almost credible.

Keep in mind that Bush came to power in a coup, and those people will stop at nothing to stay in power. There are so many ways to steal the election that we should be surprised at nothing.

11. This is exactly why we need to get this idea into the public realm
We need to get the comedians making jokes about it.. columnists "wondering" about it.. people talking about it..

If we make it a "foregone conclusion" and make people aware of the possibility that Osama is "on hold" for a politically opportune time, Bush will be ridiculed if he does try this..

I have no doubt that everything in this administration is stage-managed and choreographed, but a lot of people out there do not.

These are the people who may not watch c-span, but they do watch Dave, Leno & Daily Show..

Ridicule works..

would be to provide "plausible" cover for yet another stolen election. Quit blaming your compatriots for the corruption of the leadership. Why do you think its called demockracy?

16. Not if all the crimes the bushies have committed...
become public in a big way. Interesting though, BobDole was on CNN last night, and when asked about Bush's chances, with a kind of "knowing smirk", he stated they would be greatly improved if Osama was caught. Once again, I got that queasy feeling in my stomach. I think they've got him stashed. And look what Bush did today. He approved an extension of time for the 9/11 panel. why would he do that? Perhaps because he thinks he's got an ace(Osama) up his sleeve?

I wanted to punch it because it is so damn funny.

Reminds me of reading about the Romans parading their captives around Rome before they executed them. One named Vercingetorex (sp) was held for six years before his execution. He was held until Julius Caesar returned to Rome triumphant from the Gallic Wars.

This "High Noon" Mano y Mano cowboy shit really sells.

19. Like finding Saddam...
... finding OBL would provide a temporary boost. That's about it though. Remember, way too many people were double-speaked into believing Saddam was the real enemy anyway.
