History repeats itself
President Bush's record on an independent commission to study the attacks of September 11:
1. Oppose an independent commission. 2. When that opposition becomes politically untenable, turn around and support the independent commission to ensure that you have control over how it does its work. 3. Appoint a chairman who has a long history of cover ups. 4. When that chairman resigns, do everything in your power to delay, block, and obstruct the commission's work. 5. When the new chairman says the commission needs more time (thanks in no small part to your obstruction), insist on the original deadline, ensuring that the job isn't completed and the American people never learn the full truth.
President Bush's record (so far) on an independent commission to study intelligence failures leading up to the war in Iraq:
1. Oppose an independent commission. 2. When that opposition becomes politically untenable, turn around and support the independent commission to ensure that you have control over how it does its work.
So what do you think is going to happen next?
