Why is it that not one Senator has co-sponsored "The Voter Confidence Act," S1980?

The House version of "The Voter Confidence Act," HR 2239, has 110 co-sponsors.

1. It must be a bad idea

Edit to add comment- It is extremely sad of course and I appreciate you mentioning it as it sure isn't going to be on television.

A paper trail is a no brainer. The paper of one Sunday NYT and a pound of soy ink would print receipts for my complete county. People should take this as complete corruption of both parties that a paper trail was not required in the original bill that funded and mandated new standards in voting equipment. It lowered standards at huge expense to remove a paper trail that had existed forever.

They passed legislation that said we should spend money to remove the paper trail. Now that their corruption is caught, they just ignore it all. The system is completely corrupt and BBV shows it.

They cannot even be honest enough to call it the "Remove the Paper Trail Act."

From her bill:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:S.1986: (be sure to include the colon at the end of the URL)

`(iv) Any method used to permit the individual voter to verify his or her vote at the time the vote is cast and before a permanent record is created--

`(I) shall use the most accurate technology, which may include voter-verifiable paper ballots, votemeters, modular voting architecture, and encrypted votes, in a uniform and nondiscriminatory manner;

5. Want to know a bigger problem?
There is ONE Co-Sponsor to S1986, an inferior bill we DO NOT want supported...

My assessment: He is on the road campaigning, and as such has no time to study bills. Somebody got to his staff, fed them a line of crap, and he bought it.

Somebody needs to educate Edwards... Please go talk to him about VVPB, and why we want 1980 - NOT 1986...

So whom, you ask, would "get to him?" I don't know anything for certain, but I DO KNOW who influenced the LCCR www.civilrights.org, who in turn has influenced www.lwv.org and probably is the source of the awful policy statement from www.aclu.org that LWVUS is supporting. None other than Jim Dickson, vice president for government affairs at the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD). Their www.aapd.com seems to be down (again) but their site (which sucks) is NOT a reflection of their funding. I have been told that these folks have the best offices, and most fully-staffed, of any other disability group in DC. To all you researchers, if you want to help, follow the money and tell me who supports him. And to anyone that is disabled and does not agree with his position (he is clearly one of our greatest opponents to date) we need to find a way to challenge his positions. He speaks from position whereby he claims to represent the views of the entire disabled community, yet I have spoken to many disabled voters who want a VVPB as passionately as any of us. His lies that accessible technology does not exist are quickly defeated as soon as one looks at Avante or Vogue. We need to find a way to stop this guy. He is a huge part of the problem.

6. Not all agree with Dickson
National Federation for the Blind is on the wrong side too- but only at the top. Their tech person, who is blind, tests machines including vvpb. He is for a paper ballot. (And likes Linux and open source)

Aren't there connections between the NFB and Diebold?

Sequoia "supports" some research in California, don't they?

9. "connections"
<<<Aren't there connections between the NFB and Diebold?>>>

We heard from someone suing them and then a bunch of stories hit the media. I'm not sure if she continuted her individual action.

11. Just checking in....John Edwards is my Senator.....
I worked on his campaign when he ran for the Senate. He is by far the worst senator you could ever hope for. The fact that he is getting so far in the primaries just TOTALLY freaks me out.

He will NOT meet with MoveOn representatives, he will not meet with BBV representatives, he will not meet with any damn body I know of, except special interests. The people that ran his campaign for Senate were left in the dust afterward.

The guy is a FACE. All this "I grew up the only white child of a mill-working black family" crap that he is running on in the campaign is JUST A FACE. He is by far the most disingenuous human on the planet. He is CERTAINLY not prepared to reform the mafia that is running the global politics currently.

You want him to look into BBV? Does it make his hair shine?? If not, forget it.

13. good question
I have written my Senators Snowe and Collins but haven't heard anything back from them yet.

With the latest scare in Washington causing a delay it's probably better to call them, which i will do.
