Violence OK. Breasts NOT OK.
Chantelle Riches, a 24-year-old Orem mother, was horrified when she and her family saw the show.
"The whole country is completely floored that someone would have the audacity to put this on prime-time TV in front of our children," she said.
Riches has contacted the FCC and Republican Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch's office to complain. "You see a naked booby on TV today," she said. "So what will you see 10 years from now if no one speaks out?"

These idiots are amazing. I just don't remember the "outrage" when Peter Jennings showed that U.S. helicopter blowing away those farmers in Iraq.
Talk about "sending a message to our kids".

Is graphic violence now just the norm?

2. Yes, it's a very political topic for some of us DU females......
And, there's another thread with a post referring to those who thought it was inappropriate (on Paula Zahn's Show) as "Feminazi's."

This is a very political issue for Democratic Females who have Rape as an issue. Where the ripping of a female's clothing in front of a Superbowl halftime audience whether done for "entertainment" purposes is sending a message which we worked hard to overcome. And the racial overtones are just as worrysome. A white guy rips off an article of clothing of a black woman who was waiting and ready for it by her application of a "nipple enhancer." Sexual Object, anyone?

What the hell kind of message was this supposed to send? What?

22. I agree
and I don't see it as entertaining at all.:wtf: Plus why is Jackson having to take the blame for this, Timmberlake was a party to it but I guess being a white male excluses him from responsibility.

3. In America, violence is ok, sex is bad
Don't they take some of the sex out of James Bond movies and put in more violence for the US versions, while they take out some of the violence and keep all the sex for the Euro version?

I thought I had heard that a while back.

It goes back to our puritanical roots.

4. Television Hypocrisy
The entire Superbowl is an orgy in the culture of war and macho. There's more red, white and blue on display than any other color.

The NFL has bent over backwards to kiss this regime's ring (remember that pre-season desecration of the National Mall???) and it's corporate benefactors. CBS, who makes billions off it's NFL deal, are willing partners in all the exploitations and hypocrisies that goe with these games and with television in general. (For more about football I defer to George Carlin).

Here's a few of the mixed messages the media sends that are purely at the behest of this regime and corporate america...

Drugs are bad (you support the terrorist, unless you have a radio show), but drinking gallons of alcohol during the game isn't only accepted, it's celebrated...especially for the millions of kids looking in waiting for the latest Budweiser ad.

Or there's the sex is bad...evil, immoral, but death and suffering is a sign of strength. Besides the thousands of murders that are "committed" on the hundreds of television channels each day, give an exceptionally violent play and it'll be replayed over and over...and into Superbowl folklore. We like our modern gladiators...just keep them wimmen folk locked away for us cavemen to abuse later.

I didn't see the stunt as anything mysogonistic (sp...sorry...it's stll early here) or condoning rape or abuse of women, but just another titilation to draw attention to Jackson and Timberlake...both whose shelf life in the pop world are running thin and needed to make noise that could shake a few thousand sales for lame albums...from companies with financial interests in CBS and MTV.

5. Well Iraq proved this....
Our troops are free to shot any Iraqi woman they want, as long as they don't have sex with the corpse afterwards.

11. Women, sex objects and outrage
It seems to me that the "conservative" idea "what will the children think" kind of outrage is based on the idea that the objectification of women is only OK once the man is 18 or 21 or whatever age is allowed in strip joints. Then it is perfectly fine. But it outrageous for anyone under that age to be exposed to such a view.

It's kind of like the same thing with alcohol attitudes. Like you're a man who can drink beer and objectify women when you get to a certain age, but not before.

In a way - J.J. was driving this point home - with the stunt at the Super Bowl. It is interesting how it relates to the commercials - esp. the commercials involving beer, men and women.

12. for god's sake...
it's a breast. 51% of the world has them and the other 49% are guaranteed to see at least ONE between birth and death. i don't see what the big deal is.

and anybody who doubts that it was staged is fooling himself or herself...

Hey, thanks for speaking for the whole country.

I'm "floored" by "audacity" every single fucking day, but it has nothing to do with breasts. How about the needless deaths of U.S. soldiers and Iraqis? How about the criminals in the White House? How about the fucking religious civil war * is trying to start among Americans?

A brief glimpse of a breast and there's an investigative committee? Moral outrage? You've got to be fucking KIDDING ME with this shit! Did I wake up in a parallel dimension? Who are you and what have you done with my country?

18. what I want to know
at what age does the breast become "taboo" to a child?
I am assuming most young children have seen a woman's breast. Breast-feeding is considered to be the best nutrition for childhood development. Yes, breasts have a purpose other than titillation. When a small child reaches for a breast (if you're female and ever baby-sat an infant, you know what I'm talking about), it's cute. So when and why exactly do we teach the child that the breast is taboo and should be hidden until they are adults?

20. I agree.
This is one of the things that has always pissed me off about TV.

Personally I like both violence and sex.

However I dont like violence with sex, or sex with my violence.

21. How about neither is OK?
The corporate media is what let Janet Jackson expose her breast. State-owned media that promotes culture would never tolerate this filth. Look at PBS, look at FranceTV, look at CCTV. Do you see this filth on any of these networks?

The corporate media just loves to distract us from real issues by getting the populace all horny about sexually titillating trash.

I don't want war, but I don't want to live in a society dominated by perverted consumer culture either. Am I abnormal?
