Powell expresses doubts about the case for Iraq war

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) has said he does not know if he would have called for an invasion of Iraq (news - web sites) if he had been told it had no stockpiles of banned weapons, the Washington Post reported.

Powell made public his doubts virtually a year to the day after he made the US case for war in a crucial speech to the UN Security Council. But he insisted the United States was still right to launch the invasion last March.

The secretary of state said that even without weapons of mass destruction, Iraq's President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) still wanted them. He told the Post the administration's claims that Saddam already had chemical, biological and nuclear arms had just made the case for war more urgent.

Asked if he would have recommended an invasion if he had known Iraq had no banned weapons, Powell replied: "I don't know, because it was the stockpile that presented the final little piece that made it more of a real and present danger and threat to the region and to the world."

not a shread of honor or integrity exists in the smarmy fuck. hasn't since his shameful particpation in the attempt cover-up of the my lai massacre.

he's been around the highest levels of gov't too long not know what was going on in iraq. he willingly and knowingly lied his ass off at the UN on orders for the junta.

5. Not an issue
It just isn't, okay? The polls say no one cared about Iraq in NH and Iowa, so just shut up. No one cares. I'm not listening. Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na. Look, let's talk about something else. Did I look buff in that flight suit or what? How bout that superbowl. Janet's tit--too bad I slept through that one huh? Look, we're investigating why the CIA forced me to invade Iraq, and I can't talk about it till after the election so let's just drop it. Anyway, who cares about Iraq--I hear we might be invading Syria next. I have the greatest confidence in Mr Tenet, and I'm sure the investigation will show it was all his fault. Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na.

Can't believe I missed seeing that tit.

6. Powell has done his job well as the designated
tushy coverer for the Bush family. He's provided cover for so many misdeeds of the right. I don't know how these people live with themselves.

7. Bet this news coming out of Powell mouth will give junior a woody
Powell knows he has a lot of rope to play with these days. So is Colin playing with the rope or attempting to tie junior up in a knot?

8. the image of Powell sitting there with that little vial of white powder
trying to be really ominous is what I'll never forget or forgive. He blew any semblance of honor and integrity a long time ago.

13. Powell chose to lie at the UN...
...and lie with dramatic flare at that. He had photos and vials and an entire presentation....and he was very clear that none of his information was rumor. IT WAS ABSOLUTE FACT, and we'd better hurry up or the consequences would be horrible. Geez. Powell knew he was lying and chose to do so. He betrayed the people out of loyalty to Bush. In his second appearance, he was blindsighted by the UN inspectors... but refused to back down. Here's a reminder, lest he try to squirm out of his complicity now:
