It's finally happening
The front page of the st petersburg times (fla) has a picture
of flag draped coffins from iraq in a c-130. I know it's just
another drip, but the rock is being worn down.

2. One of those good news/bad news things...
...but kudos to the St. Pete Times for flying in the face of Der Homeland's mandate. (Although, I must admit I am often surprised at how genuinely fair-and-balanced the SPT seems to be.)

And... Welcome to DU, onethatcares! :hi:

4. It's not up yet.
It's not up yet at newseum. Not sure what time it's updated. Still showing yesterday's front page.
http://www.newseum.org/

Was the photo taken at Dover? Is there an accompanying article? I thought it wasn't allowed. (?)

As painful as it is, may the wall of silence fall.

Welcome to DU, onethatcares.

Here's a link. Maybe it's buried somewhere or they haven't updated their website yet?

7. I wonder if that is the the same photo in the Columbus Dispatch
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 09:25 AM by Maeve
No link to it, but it is a shot of eight coffins of the soldiers killed in Afghanistan (not Iraq) in the weapons-depot explosion.

Set in the center of the front page. Wow.

Pic can be found here:http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&ncid=578&e=3&u=/nm/20040203/ts_nm/afghan_usa_laden_dc

edit to add photo caption in slideshow-

Eight flag-draped cases, one for each of the soldiers killed in an explosion at a weapons cache near the city of Ghazni, 60 miles southwest of Kabul, Afghanistan (news - web sites), on Jan. 29, 2004, await transport home in a U.S. Air Force 5th Airlift Squadron C-17 aircraft on Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Bagram Airforce Base, in Bagram, Afghanistan. (AP Photo/U.S. Air Force, Tech. Sgt. Brian Davidson, HO)

second edit- Yes, it's being carried front page Columbus Dispatch today as well.

17. I apologize for thinking soldiers from Iraq.
I was going out the door today and picked up the paper, I was so amazed to see the picture my mind went out of bounds. Wherever they "returned" from, it's not to the world they left, it breaks my heart. Sorry for the mislead.

13. Articles on front page-
'Budget boosts military, security.'
'Bush banks on America's fears.'

and a picture of The Final Journey Home.

The photo is excrutiatingly painful and the article headlines are definitely not wave the flag and go shop pro-*bush.

Thank you to the St Petersburg Times and the other papers who dared to inject a bit of heart-wrenching reality today.

12. Exact Same Picture
on front page of Cincinnati Enquirer today - and I though EXACTLY the same thing - SOMEONE(S) are ready to take Bush down. That was obvious watching the talking heads last night.

It's about time. Ironic for me that it comes the day I changed my signature graphic back to the pre-war VVAW coffin.
