I'd love to be able to be around long enough to see what the history books, assuming we still have books at that point, have to say about this whole coup d'etat, 9/11, Iraq, screw the working class, Janet's boob obsession thing. Will the American people be in the same boat as the Germans for having allowed this whole thing to go on?

2. Depends on what happens in November
If we get rid of the thugs in the administration, then I suspect that history will have mercy on us.

On the other hand, if Chimpy McCokespoon were to somehow win a plurality of the popular vote fair and square, with no help from Diebold, then the United States would wholly deserve whatever sanctions the civilized world would choose to impose.

The power truly is in our hands, and there has rarely been such a pivotal moment in history.

14. Watergate was Segretti-type college pranks in comparison. Nixon
mostly was out to get his perceived political enemies, but now our Constitution and anyone with the temerity to question anything this cabal does are the enemies, i.e., the Patriot Acts, free-speech zones, control of media, secrecy, labeling of dissent as unpatriotic, et al

4. my psychic mind tells me
that what is about to happen soon is going to make the third Reich look like a Disney movie...
I'm not joking--
The end of the Age of Steel-as the sun sets the sky gets darker and darker...
but I'm not saying this induce fear...
Let's induce some bravery--
like standing up against these tyrants who are trying to bankrupt this country and cut off all programs that benefit the masses .

Those in the future will look at history and see those of us who stood up as heroes(like many at D.U.)--those revered will be those who tried their best to avert our countries drive to empire and PNAC.

When this stuff gets worse we will surely see our true purposes here in this world at this time in history--and it's not a good job and salary with a nice vacation.
Higher ideals will survive the assault on human dignity.

10. Kind of gives DemocraticUnderground a whole new meaning
I have been reading a lot about Nazi Germany lately. I read a book entitled The Nazi Doctors about the psychology of how doctors who were trained to heal people could have been enticed into harming so many. I had not realized that doctors were the ones who supervised the 'selections' as prisoners arrived at the concentration camps. In that way they could make it seem to themselves and to the prisoners, in part to keep them calm, that this was a medical procedure. It explored the experimentation that went on and the psychology around that.

The basic theme that was found was that by getting rid of the Jews, who were a 'scab' on humanity that the Aryan race could be made healthy. Pretty sick. But if you think of it in Bushian logic, if we get rid of the poor in America, who bring down society, and only have the rich or well off in this country, then the 'Merkan People'will be healthier. All of the manual labor can be done offshore, or by the immigrants who are only here at the whim of their employees.

The more I read this book the more I was struck by the similarities. The ultra-patriotic theme of the Nazis is right in step, pun intended, with the Bushes.

5. Please keep in mind that the USA is not guaranteed world domination
If we keep acting like assholes around the world, it is inevitable that other countries, including former allies and friends, will band together to resist our attempt to impose our own values and needs on them.
One of the reasons this is such an important election is that 4 more years of Bush lite may permanently damage solid alliances which have served us very well since the end of the Second World War.
Germany chose not to participate in the Iraq war, for which they have been much insulted. I've read a bit of 20th century history and the idea of a pacifist Germany in the 21st century is something I can live with. Oh, that and the fact that our combat casualties are currently sent to Germany for high quality medical treatment.
I believe that history will view the Bush lite years as an attempted revolution by the already haves, stealing more and more services and cash from the middle classes, turning the not haves into low paid servants. It is up to us to make sure that it is unsuccessfully.

6. biggest scam ever
Is how I'd like to think it will go down. But who knows--history is indeed written by the victors.

If bush loses the election, he will have lost a significant base from which to rewrite history.

7. "Evening in America"
A certain fitting irony actually.

Poppy gave us "Morning in Amrica" which was a green light to Big Oil to keeping pumping and stopped the efforts of Carter to develop alternative energy.

Now, 25 years later,Dimson is presiding over the destruction of this country and the era of Peak Oil production is upon us....and we now are shedding American blood to maintain our fix on this dwindling resource. No plan for the future, just keep pumping that oil.

9. From the SFGate Mark Morford Column 11/26/03:

<snip>

"Be grateful BushCo's ratings are slipping lower than an SUV's mpg rating, and there is only one year left until he joins his father as one of those embarrassing historical footnotes, a jagged scar on the heart of a wary America that other countries point to in years to come and say wow that's a nasty scar where'd you get that, and we reply, George W. Bush, and they go, oh my God, that's right. So sorry."

11. I hope this is right.
Please let it be a foot note and not the start of the second part of our history. Our ego keeps saying we are right and Gods gift to the world, but read just a little of history will show we are a nation of a little more than 200 years in nations that lasted 1000's.Have you seen the difference in the news of late? It looks like it sees the writing on the wall. This Bush is taking us down.

13. In 50 years, when everybody is learning Chinese...
And, the US is still struggling to recover after decades of massive debt & deflation, bad water, declining schools and expensive, wrongheaded wars...the now state controlled sole media outlet Fox Media in the US will still be blaming Clinton for the US downfall, while the rest of the world will know that "Morning in America" in the 80s was really the onset of twilight and the Bush years were the final curtain at midnight.

15. Yes I'd love to read the history 100 years or more from now
it's up in the air as to which way we go, either way this looks like a watershed year coming. We're going to come through this and be embraced by the world again, or we're going try some screwball attempt at Armageddon.

I hope it's the former, I was just wondering about how we'll be archived, so that sometime in the future, students will be able to read, and interpret our postings.
