4. It all depends on the meaning of "independent"
Looks like David Kay is a great candidate for heading the Bush-controlled "independent" investigation. Remember Lord Hutton's balanced inquiry!

5. Independent, right, "Mission Accomplished, Whats the difference?
The only thing that would make that an independent committee is if they choose Ima Independent, an often cited but seldom seen retired Magistrate from Podunkville Redstate to head the commission.

6. The 7% must be the WH staffers frantically trying to cover their bosses
ass.

Or, the delightfully uninformed.

7. Comment to Wolf:
"Should there be an independent commission?
Sure.
Should Bush* choose the members?
Wouldn't that be like Clinton choosing the House members to oversee his impeachment proceedings?
Seems so to me."

9. SHAM!!
An astute DUer pointed out on another thread that the Chimp is appointing an "independent" commission who is to report their results in 2005, presumably after his reselection. The very fact that they're appointed by him means they're not independent. This is already being framed as an intelligence failure and that is what will be dutifully reported and Bush will come out of this pile of shit vindicated and smelling like a rose.

"Should there be an independent commission to find the facts on Iraq's WMD?

The wording is skewed to convey the idea there are WMDs in Iraq even though we all know by now none ever existed. Why not ask why Bush hasn't yet been impeached or tried for treason for leading the country to war on a lie?

12. Need to also ask, if Bush appoints it, can it be "independent?"
My answer would be no. No one in the administration should have a role in appointing this commission.

13. Also should be a 6 month timetable.
Commission should have complete authority to subpeona anything from anybody and stonewalling by any admin official be immediate grounds for dismissal and prosecution.

20. WE might be able to, but collectively, the Imperial Subjects of Amerika
cannot, apparently.

Or perhaps Imperial Pravda is just shoveling trivialities down our throats.

I can't tell anymore.
