Why do conservatives rail against CFR?
They hate * for signing it but in no way acknowledge that they have been the primary beneficiaries of banning soft money.

For people appalled at the prospect of a democratic "socialist" candidate they don't seem very pragmatic.

1. actually I think that we benefit more than they do

considering that the media won't run any leftish ads. So banning ads from organizations from both sides actually benefits us. I think this was particularly astute on Feingold's part.

they rail against CFR because organizations like Club for Growth and the Christian Coalition can't run ads.

2. Why don't liberals support CFR more?
This was supposed to be the big change to campaign finance, the big first step in eliminating the influence of nasty money in politics.

I still have never understood how certain political ads could be OK up to 61 days before a general election, but become illegal once that 60 day mark is passed.

4. that doesn't change the "quality" of the ad in question
Whether the audience is "smart enough" to be able to parse through the message and discover what's true and what isn't is not something that is determined by how soon before the election said ad is aired.

Also, if they take the text of such an ad and put it in a newspaper, miraculously its OK. That doesn't make sense either.
