Free Republic comments on the stampede at Hajj (WARNING: OFFENSIVE)

So how's America's Islamophobia-meter?

Pasted below are just a handful of comments from several pages worth at a "mainstream" message board.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Aren't these the same people who once worshiped the moon, and now they worship a black rock with a rag draped over it? Worthless crew.

BTW, no wonder Europe is doomed. When I turned on the TV yesterday morning, BBC, Sky News, and CNN London were all showing extensive live hajj footage, with the giddy on-scene reporters looking like they couldn't wait to join the stampede. The background noise was really weird, as if the sound people had done something to turn it way down. It was a very strange gurgling sound, like thousands of turkeys being gathered for the Thanksgiving slaughter. It was the same sound on all the news reports. Oh, and on top of that were the "calls to prayer".

Well, in the end they'll either fight them or join them.

It's their call. Either be free or be slaves, especially the females.

But oh well, people are rock stupid. If we do the right thing and eradicate islam off the planet it'll be quite an accomplishment.

Yeah, they're basically nasty to begin with; especially camel dung and all, but with a crowd of em like that, it's gotta be utterly unbearable....no wonder they stampeded...someone probably cut a fart after eating camel dung....lol
I look at that picture, I guess that must be Mecca, and all I can invision is one strategically-placed, made in USA, tactical nuclear warhead and we would be light-years ahead of eradicating this scum from the face of the planet.

Look at it this way: 14 killed last year...244 killed this year. They're at least getting better at it.

Not anti Christian, if those who ARE spewing out racist bile are professed Christians, then maybe they need to read more about Jesus

The Rev. Jerry Vines, pastor of the 25,000-member First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, "Islam was founded by Muhammad, a demon-possessed pedophile who had 12 wives - and his last one was a 9-year-old girl. And I will tell you Allah is not Jehovah either. Jehovah's not going to turn you into a terrorist that'll try to bomb people and take the lives of thousands and thousands of people."

I'm just trying to imagine the outcry if someone called Jesus a demon worshipping paedophile in fact I've seen YOU yourself take offense in another thread to people simply saying that they personally don't beleive...and please don't come back with the same mis quoted passages from the Quran that the southern baptists tried to use to justify this hoary old piece of shite.

my comment is not anti-Christian; it's anti-fundamentalist Christian, who are no better than followers of the state-sponsored Nazi churches in the '30s and '40s. They preach hate and exclusion-not Jesus' true message.

39. Heard anti-Islamic sermon in a Southern Baptist Church
We were reluctant guests at a Southern Baptist Christmas eve service, and even I was surprised to hear the preacher declare Islam a false religon and pass the bucket for a mission to convert the heathen worshippers of the moon god.
Fundamentalists of any stripe are assholes, no matter where you go.

37. Sorry, But...
I don't consider those folks christian. The prophet Jesus(pbuh) made his teachings quite clear and concise.
Jesus stated that you could tell a tree by the fruit it bore. The fruit of Jesus' teachings is love, compassion and forbearance, not the vomit of hate.

These people tow the line of the Anti-Christ. Not Jesus, son of Mary.

4. Bush's Willing Executioners
These people have learned nothing. They are the Mengele's and Eichmann's of the digital age; vicarious murder motors their typing fingers, and, to quote Michael Herr, their "dreamy eyes are full of mega-death." For a crash course on the banality of evil, take a short trip over to Free Republic. Eradicate Islam off the face of the planet? Tactical nuclear weapons? The sub-humanity of Hajji? This is truly stuff of extermination camp quality. These people must be stopped. If they want planetary eradication of a people, they should go ahead and lead by example.

20. Yes...
The common theme through all that was snipped here (I didn't go read FR) was the assertions of the subhumanity of these Muslims. Dehumanizing the "other" IS the first necessary step before genocide can be undertaken.

48. The ability to hate
comes from absolute authority and absolute beliefs. If you have a system that puts down absolute laws as to what is Good and what is Evil you can then paint individuals as being unredeamable. When the world is painted as absolutes those that side with Evil are evil to the core.

In the absolute world Evil is a real thing. It is not some misunderstanding. It is the actions of an Evil entity swaying the unfortunate into its control. Once there they can do no good. Thus hating them is a good thing.

This is why relativistic morality is so dangerous to the religious right. It refuses to put one form of morality over another. It realises that different societies have different basis of ethics. It attempts to create a consensus as a means to bring diverse cultures together and occaisionally will stand up against some of the more obvious violations of human rights. But above all it champions freedom and that is a threat to the religious right.

I think we have a little nest of White Supremist neo-Nazis here. These are Aryan gang members, every bit as dangerous as Bloods or Crips. The racism is really blatant with these inbred cretins.

If you are Arab though, I would be careful around these wierdos. It seems that they have a whole new bunch of brown people to hate besides "fags and wimin".

Edited to clarify words.

Seriously, does no one else find stampeding and crushing people so you can be the first to throw rocks at another rock to be ridiculous?
This happens every single year at this place. One would think after it happens a thousand times they'd learn to avoid it. It's a shame all those people died but how can you not place the blame solely on their own heads? Learn from history lest it be repeated, these guys don't seem to get it. It is stupid and completely avoidable.

24. The west has plenty of rediculous rituals
Edited on Sun Feb-01-04 06:07 PM by PsychoDad
That claim more lives each year... Drinking and driving on Holidays comes to mind. A solution for that is also easy.

As I said in another place, you have to remember the date and timing of the Hajj as well as it's rituals, are dictated by 1400 years of tradition. When the Hajj was deemed as a once in a lifetime requirement by Muslims who could make it, I doubt anyone except Allah suspected that there would be 2 million each year. Any "changes" would have to conform to tradition and interpertation.

Remember, these 224 died in a throng of 2 Million, in many ways it is remarkable that more don't die each year. From what I have seen, the saudis so a pretty good job of public safety. The ritual of mina, where the throng of 2 million throws pebbles at 3 pillars representing satan is a very emotionaly charged moment. 2 million people, that's a lot all in one place.

Compare this to a Superbowl with 2 million people and only 2 teirs to watch the game from. How many americans would be crushed?

Having said this, I do think some changes are needed. What and how are the questions.

As for the freepers, They have every right to voice their opinions.
May Allah forgive them, Guide them and have mercy on them.

Eid Mubarak

Pity it wasn't more. Have these people ever heard of the concept of forming line or is that too Western for them?

Hillsborough. - NO muslims, no Arabs' - not even a religious fervour motive. Nearly a hundred died trying to watch football. This is just off the top of my head, I can also recall deaths at concerts and stocktake sales at department stores mmm dying for 25% off whitegoods is FAAAAR more sensible.

As for backwards religious attitudes, how many people beleive that a man died 2000 years ago "for our sins", how many in the US beleive that the earth is 6000 years old, how many Americans would prefer evolution NOT be taught in schools, how many American politicians would get away with saying "I don't beleive in God".

People often wonder how so many Germans went along the torture and murder of millions of Communists, socialists, trade unionists, jews and disabled people - personally, given ample evidence of govt's brewing hatred for their own devices and ample evidence of people willing to climb on the bandwagon - I've never found it difficult to understand.
