ACLU Question
Does anyone know of specific cases of the ACLU representing Christians related to religious issues? I know it has happened, I just don't know specific cases, issues, etc...

There was a ridiculous viewpoint article in my local paper that painted the ACLU as a bunch of Christian hating communists. I am writing a response to his drivel. I know where to find the stuff if I had time to do the research, but I want to send this to my paper tomorrow.

Us DUers are smart AND resourceful, so I thought I'd ask here first before spending two or three hours on the Intenet or at the library.

Thanks!

1. Here's a perfect example
The ACLU sided with Jerry Falwell in opposing a Virginia law that banned religious groups from incorporating.

A federal judge in Massachusetts ruled today that students had the right to pass out Christmas candy canes with a religious message at a government high school.

The Justice Department, which supported the students along with American Civil Liberties Union, is praising the decision.

Members of a Bible club at Westfield High School had been told that they could distribute the candy canes with a "Happy Holidays" message, the department said. But they were forbidden to attach a message containing a prayer and a description of the religious origins of the candy cane.

The Justice Department and American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts then filed friend-of-the-court briefs urging the judge to rule in favor of the students in the case, Westfield L.I.F.E. Club vs. City of Westfield.

2. The ACLU does many things one can considered ridiculous
The ACLU is defending Rush Limbaugh's right to keep medical sealed.

The main thing the ACLU defends is the Bill of Rights.

aka the North American Man-Boy Love Association. They advocate...uhhh, never mind. I'd rather not talk about it. Very creepy.

If that ain't standing up for unpopular groups, I don't know what is. That's about as unpopular as one can get.

Here's a little more about the ACLU, courtesy of the vastly useful info resource (seriously!), The Rotten Library:
