Cheney Appears to Soften on Iraq Weapons

WASHINGTON - If Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) shares in the rising doubts about the accuracy of prewar intelligence on Iraq (news - web sites)'s cache of banned weapons, he is keeping any misgivings mostly to himself.

Yet, it appears that Cheney, portrayed by critics as the war's behind-the-scenes architect, is softening his insistence that deposed Iraqi president Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) had such weapons.

In August 2002, months before the U.S.-led invasion, Cheney said: "Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction."

On Tuesday, Cheney told reporters in Rome: "There's still work to be done to ascertain exactly what's there, and I'm not prepared to make a final judgment."

3. I for one do not think Cheney is all that bright.
I remember Michael Kinsley wondering whether Cheney has ever had an original thought.

6. This is what Cheney should have said BEFORE the war
He should be imprisoned for the deaths of over 500 soldiers and thousands of Iraqis. This shit also said that "we know he has reconstituted nuclear weapons" the lying bastard.

10. People like that don't think they have to worry about things like........
Death, being killed, having to kill or having other kill for you, they just farm it all out. Dick's top concern is making sure them wheels get greased for companies like Haliburton.

Dicky and many of the rest of them would never spend any of their time in military worrying about the possibility of mortal danger. They just farm everything out and set them selves up to collect the benefit of the toils of other people, thats GOP way.

14. In truthfullness
Mr. Cheney is not as successful as one might think. History will read this guy out. A sure sign of success is how long ones policies last. Mr. Cheney almost bankrupted Halliburton; his time spent with Mr. Bush Sr. was difficult period of time, and his congressional record is hardly mainstreamed. Basically the man was a jerk most of his life. When history comes down on the Bush Jr. administration, all of them will be rated as a period of time we would like to forget, but cannot because we do not want history to repeat itself.

11. Aww, c'mon Dick! We all know how you like to be judgemental!
We also know that this is a stall for you either to plant chemicals in the Iraqi desert or find another plausible story to excuse your illegal invasion.

13. What's the status of Cheney's health? Do we get reports on that?
Do they release his exam results occasionally? How would we know if Cheney was infirm? If Cheney was declared incompetent by a doctor, who would become shadow president? Not Hastert. Maybe Baker?
