Does anyone else think we'll blow it?
The positive signs are coming in from all sides. Democrats get 15% of the NH repub. primary votes. Bush is only leading the "dem. nominee" in SC by 2 points. Scandals are waiting to erupt left and right. The house of Shrub is in disorder.

Does anyone else get the feeling that we're going to blow this somehow? Obviously things are shifting in our direction, but I just don't see any of these scandals causing real problems for Bush. Plus we'll have to wait for the October surprise. Worst of all, I fear that whatever happens we will find some way to blow this.

What do you think?

1. Some of the positive signs
are a result of Bush not out campaigning, debating, etc. We'll have a clearer picture after that.

2. Very true
It may change once he gets out on the stump. Although, there is more room for error once he is unscripted and opens his mouth. That may make the Democrats chances all the better.

7. "Not Out Campaigning"
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 02:41 PM by TennesseeWalker
I disagree. Bush has been campaigning since the very first day he took office. I don't think anything he does is going to change many people's minds about him and his policies.

Having said that, you always have to worry about a Democrat blowing an election. Dems are usually real people, whereas most corporate republicans are evil lockstep BORG.

3. I'm still worried about the electoral college
Enough states do not have it written into law that the electorate must vote according to the popular vote. That has me very worried, especially with and infiltration of the Rove and Delay ilk throughout the nation.

5. I'm not,I'm worried about rigged up Diebold machines and scrubbed lists
Nothing matters one iota if it isn't fair. Gore won in 2000 but lost to election rigging pre and post. You can't win if it isn't fair no matter who you run.

6. I think we will..
in the sense that we've got an opportunity to bring far more people into the forls with this election, but Kerry could suck a lot of energy out of the party.

15. Agreed
I was a lot more optimistic before Kerry's inexplicable popularity was thrust into clarity by Iowa and NH. I had previously taken him about as seriously as the serial nomination loser Gephardt, but now, he worries the hell out of me.

12. I don't think we'll blow it
but I do feel there is some serious 'rope-a-dope' going on with the WMD issue.

I hope I'm wrong, but I just feel 'one way or another' WMD's WILL be found.

And when that happens the 'talking points ballgame' will be pretty much over.

Oh yeah - and then there's Osama popping up just in time.

This ain't over, by a long shot folks.

Anyone who thinks that the Cro-mags in office that fought so hard to get this level of power will just 'give it up' is fooling themselves.

16. The WMD point you forget--TOO LATE!
The WMD argument was based on IMMINENT THREAT: I.E. their availability to be used on us AT ANY MOMENT.

Obviously if there "are" any they were not kept anywhere where they could be deployed at a moments notice, whether on our troops, against Israel , or over London.

17. I'm talking about
GOP talking points here.
And we all know how they dominate the discourse.
Regardless of the lies that were told to get us into Iraq, 'discovering' WMD's of any consequence will be enough for the media/Repubs to shade the truth and distract from the real issue.

13. I'm wondering if ....
every time a frontrunner emerges, are we going to knock him down. It wasn't just the media that went after Dean, the other Dems did it at the debates.

Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 03:18 PM by Capn Sunshine
Look what they currently do to any candidate who resonates with the public.

I'm thinking of Clark also BTW. The way they are "non covering" him to minimize his momentum is criminal.

18. It's not ours to blow
AWOL is still a pretty heavy fave. There are simply more states that will definitely go GOP in Nov than those that will go Dem. It is a fact of the electoral college.

21. More states? Big deal
Most of the states that supported Bush are tiny (e.g. Montana, South Dakota, Idaho).

Although we should certainly try to win as many states as possible, we only need about twenty to win.

We'd blow it if we nominate Dean, for example. Then Bush would take 45+ states and 400+ electoral votes.

why do you think Dean, Clark, and Kucinich are so popular...compared to people like Kerry, Edwards, Gephardt, and Lieberman?

25. If we blow it, we're done . . . and if we don't stop playing games
like 'if my candidate doesn't get the nomination, I'll stay home on election day' then we shall truly deserve the government we'll be getting--BFEE-4-ever!

I'm with Kooch all the way, but I'm not going to stay home and pout. I'll work with Irish Democrats Abroad and the AVA for whoever our Democratic candidate is.

It's ABB time, folks! We've got a common enemy and his name is George Herbert Walker Bush. And we've got limited ammo, so let's use it against the real enemy and not against our own. Jaizus, we're turning into virtual suicide bomber here sometimes!

BUSHCO MUST BE DESTROYED!!!! To quote KKKarl Rove, "stick to principles, stick to principles!"
