"There is no age exemption from committing murder in the Alabama code"
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 07:24 PM by Rowdyboy
Huh? Here's the story.....John Quirk, 85 years old, strangles his wife when she complains that his breathing machine was too loud. Got it. Teach her to complain! But the district attorney says "There is no age exemption from committing murder in the Alabama code". So what? There no "age exemption" from committing murder in ANY state is there? I've never heard of anything like that. It may not be logical to prosecute an 85 year old for murder but when has whats logical ever mattered?

Am I off-base or is this DA merely an idiot?

1. The DA is an idiot.
Wonder if he's a Republican.

2. As a paralegal, I can tell
you honestly that there is definitely no shortage of idiot DA's and prosecutors ANYWHERE in the country! And idiot DA's and prosecutors can do a helluva lot of damage, that's for sure!

3. I don't see what's so odd about that statement.
Just because he said "Alabama code" instead of broadening his statement to include other states? Other states' laws aren't relevant here. I think the DA was making a deliberately obvious statement.

4. Probably, had I heard him say it aloud
it might have made more sense. Just reading on paper, though, it sounds very strange.

His vocal inflection could have made the difference. However, who am I to pass up any opportunity to mindlessly bash lawyers? Its one of our favorite national pass time's and everyone needs to stay in practice.
